What did you think of Season Five of The Crown?

I finished all ten episodes on my two flights last week. I thought this was, by far, the best season yet.

What are your thoughts?

I just finished it today. Maybe I need to give another watch, but I thought it was the most boring season so far. Which, I hate to say because I know it's based on real people and real events, but I just felt like there wasn't a whole lot going on (and I kept getting distracted, tbh.)
I'm also a bit biased because I really loved Claire Foy and Matt Smith as the Queen and Philip, so the first two seasons are going to be hard to top for me.

That's such a great observation. Certainly there was more Queen-centered drama in seasons 1 and 2. I really liked Imelda Staunton's portrayal of the Queen but, yes, I still miss Claire Foy. Appreciate your thoughts!

It was crap! That amateur woman who played the queen was so full of herself, the stories were deadly boring and overacted, Prince Philip was a dashing guy in real life and this wimp played him horribly, the woman who played Princess Margaret took all the life out of her, Princess Anne was dull, dull, dull, extremely poor and uninteresting writing. It was nothing compared to previous seasons.

I will have to catch up! I was very impressed with Seasons One and Two. I kind of hoped they would keep Claire Foy and Matt Smith and Vanessa Kirby as Liz and Phil and Margaret and just try to makeup age them a bit, but I guess that just was not possible.

You'll enjoy it. If you haven't watched season 3 and 4, do so first.

I think they could have aged them but Peter Morgan chose not to.

Good to know! It is well done. Most Americans might need a crash course in British History to really get into it (how many here know about the Killer London Smog of 1952 or the Profumo Scandal?) but anyway... and John Lithgow as Churchill was amazing, as was Clancy Brown as President LBJ.

I can see that. I wanted to see what they did with it so I kept going. And it is really good writing and acting and stagecraft, so there's that. :)
