Did you like the season 8 of Game of thrones? If so, why and if not, well why?

Something people don't know about me, I used to be such a nerd of the show haha

Anyways I started to watch GoT from the beginning and I'm just so deeply mad at season 8.
Like the overall story wasn't bad (even tho I wished something else for Daenerys but ok) but it was just so damn rushed!

You could feel that the writers didn't wanted to do this project and tried to end it as fast as possible!
They could have done 10 season with the material they had.

Example like the series starts with the danger of the white walkers, this big catastrophic most dangerous apocalyptic like event, 7 fucking seasons they built up to this, just to kill it off in less than what 20 min or something... ughhhhh I'm getting so angry!

I don't think anyone did. Like you say, the ending COULD have worked, with more buildup. I get that they wanted to keep with George's "7 kingdoms, 7 books, 7 seasons" motif, but even HE had to split the fourth book into two, screwing up his original plan.

But Littlefinger and Varys both became idiots, Tyrion lost his wit AND his intelligence, Jon lost himself, Circe went into a WAR without making any backup plans, Danerys became a completely different character, and Jaime... the entire POINT of Jaime (silly pun name aside) was showing the importance of context: he killed the Mad King to save the lives of everyone in King's Landing, but we didn't know that, because we saw him through the eyes of Ned Stark, the avatar of "honorable to a fault". Jaime was hardly a horrible person; he just faced a conflict of his ideals (as Miracle of Sound put it, "my oaths betray each other 'till there's nothing left to keep"). Then, in season 8, we got "I never really cared much for them, innocent or otherwise". Straight-up awful. Even Ser Davos had his character screwed up; the guy who can't fight worth a damn LEADING THE CHARGE into King's Landing? I don't think so.

The only characters who escaped being rendered stupid, artificially inflated (hello, Sansa, who by the way NEVER GOT TO HAVE A CONFRONTATION WITH CIRCE) and/or having their entire core gutted were Qyburn (who'd already ceased to be a character and become a plot tool) and Drogon (who didn't have much of a character to begin with). Well, I suppose Euron Greyjoy didn't, despite dying having fatally wounded Jaime Lannister, which no one would even KNOW about, ignoring the fact that he killed a DRAGON just a few days earlier- but his character was already a pale parody of book Euron, who's one of the scariest characters in the canon. Show Euron is just a mouthy pirate.

Then of course we have Arya, a character lead into darkness if not outright evil, to an extent that even her HUMANITY was being questioned, inexplicably turning up at Winterfell (seriously, why did she even GO there?), suddenly turning around and rejecting her obsession with vengeance, only to... pursue it anyway? Then getting the kill on the Night King, who shouldn't even have BEEN there- his minions could have finished the job quite well without him. That whole BATTLE was a debacle; I'm more knowledgeable about medieval warfare than most people, but I'm hardly an expert, and even *I* had my jaw drop at how stupid everyone involved acted. And so the whole war- the whole SHOW goes to Arya. But the whole central idea of Game of Thrones was that the titular "game" was never the POINT- that in the face of death, we're all on the same side, and who sits on the world's most uncomfortable chair doesn't MATTER if everyone is killed.

As the plots of the show began to pass those in the books (which started in earnest in season five) the quality took a nosedive. By season seven, they had nothing left to adapt, and had to write it out of whole cloth, and it very, VERY much showed.

the creators of the show got really famous and trendy... so, when they were in the middle of running the later seasons, they got offered crazy mad money to go work for Disney or whoever, I don't remember if it was new Star Wars movies or whatever, something else big like that

so the creators had a decision to make... to continue with GoT and give it the proper development and ending, or... go for the big money, butcher and rush the ending, and kill it just like they did

The last book released ended with every city Daenerys conquered revolting and laying siege to the city she was in & taking off with Drogo to be found by Dothraki & Jon Snow dying.

Thats where the books ended. Everything else was made up with notes from GRRM.

The show made a downturn from that season on.

The book was establishing Daenerys & Snow as being horrible leaders. Really stupid ones given how many hints there was towards their possible deaths.

Melisandre tells Snow I see daggers in the dark all around you. Ignores her. Snow tells Night Watch to give up thousands of years of tradition to let their enemies in. Numerous night watch question his actions he shoots them all down. Gets killed no surprise there.

Daenerys same thing. Conquered all those cities forcing their ruling elite to capitulate and give up traditions. Soon as she leaves they rebel. This development leads to her being tyrannical which you can understand from the novel but in the show she just flip flops instantly ok kill everyone

Decisions are made by characters not making any sense and not consistence if you see through their eyes. Dialogs are pure. I will admit that okay, the book does not come to this point, so just makes it like a common TV show instead. All the fights on season 8 is totally dragon spamming with no strategy or single combats that satisfy viewers.

Not pro-male but it needs to be real. It’s only season (including most scenes in last season), all males become so dumb without reason. It’s the first time politicians like Varys, Littlefinger, Tyrion or Qyburn are kind of uselessness in main story. And you know they are a major impact to every event happening through the show, including those dead politicians in previous seasons. Jon is already dumb in decisions, but in season 8, he made more dumb decisions. Jaime fought for the North just to end up with suiciding with Cersei. Davos Seaworth staying with Stannis Baratheon is wise old man until becoming an invisible character in season 8. Theon has no use even he got back his mind, the story build him useful as last, except that, what else. I know we have a shortage of wise man since they all get killed in previous seasons but how through all the time, those other males can not be able to learn anything useful.




King and Queens or other agencies are brought to the position that they are not devoting to. Sansa Stark become Queen. Alright, Daenerys become through a lot of things, with throughout wise advisors like Barriston, Jorah Mormont and Tyrion. Who staying with Sansa Stark, who have no experience to lead the kingdom when her story focuses on her romance youth, come to hiding life until coming back to the North. Or Bran who don’t have enough proofs to show he is worthy for the Thrones. Just because he can see anything does not mean he should be King because who know. He could use his ability for a wrong thing. Or Bronn become Master of coins as his love to money.

It's been a long time since I saw it , but I just remember being mad that Jon Snow didn't end up King of the North, but he was sent away with the Wildlings.

After his Wildling love interest was killed I didn't see the point.

As for Daenerys turning into a bitch and trying to kill everyone was odd, but I never saw her as some great hero anyway.

I was most upset when Rob Stark and his woman got killed at the Red wedding and he never got to avenge his father's death. That's when the show kind of fell apart for me early on.

I personally didn't like Daenerys because she seemed like a chaotic and authoritarian ruler that did some good from time to time.

The saying "Rule with an iron fist" applies closely with her in my opinion.

I'm not sure killing her was the only option, but I understand why Jon did it.

To me, it wasn't a bad ending, but it did make me feeling something more satisfying could've happened although I'm not sure what that would be.

S8 was an absolute abomination. Jon Snow who was being set up as the guy who's gonna take down the white ones since episode 1 of the entire show does nothing to take them out. Bran who's only notable feat in the show was falling off a building became the king, for no good reason at all. Daenerys turns into lady Hitler, for no reason at all. Lots of characters act out of character. And all of that because of two things, 1. subversion of expectations (they sure did subvert my expectations of having a good ending) and 2. the creators wanted to move on to other projects like the planned Star Wars one (that one didn't happen and the new projects they've managed to realize are shit).

Aha, I was the one who missed parts of the show. Which character's entire arc revolves around the white ones? Without them what does Snow actually have? You know, besides an incestuous relationship with a murderous maniac.

Even if I were to agree that Bran makes the most choice, his entire character (including all the magical voodoo bullshit) is terrible. That was one of the worst characters in the entire show.

Targaryen's being famous for going nuts means jack shit in this context. A character who spent years going around the world freeing slaves all with the end goal of only hurting the queen and sparing the citizenry. Yet, the moment she heard some fucking bells she went berserk and did a 180 on her goals. 10/10 character writing.

A good ending would have been one where characters weren't just becoming stupid/evil/retarded on a whim for no reason whatsoever. One in which the white walkers and the collection of other armies aren't incompetent as shit the moment they have to be for the story to progress. All the military tactics in episode 3 were mind-numbingly stupid. Arya teleporting across the city just to martialize out of thin air to kill the night king in the lamest was possible was shit. Having Jon Snow actually do something in that entire battle would have been cool, especially if he was the one who slayed the one guy he was always supposed to.

The ending is bad because his character arc is incomplete and it makes him look like an idiot. Arya shoving her dagger where it didn't belong destroys the main thing Snow had going for him. Also, all of this is about concepts, not the finished product. Even if you think that it would have been fine if Snow lost what should have been moment of character fulfillment to an annoying brat, you've gotta admit that the way they did it was stupid. Everything about the military tactics, Arya teleporting across town, the ice dragon not being able to destroy a rock to kill Jon, damn everything about that episode was terrible. How many characters were just swarmed by enemies, yet the second one of the dozens of them is killed and suddenly every character is just fine. And seriously, what is Snow without the Night King slayer arc?

That is the flimsiest excuse ever. People being mean to her wouldn't have made Daenerys a blood thirsty tyrant who murdered more people than all of her enemies ever did, combined. If her slipping into madness was well executed they wouldn't have had to do a montage of characters bullshiting about it at the start of the episode. And the bell thing still means nothing and makes no sense.

Stupid - Jaime, years of character development down the drain, love for Brienne over and done with like a flip of a switch cause Jamie wants some of his sisters pussy again, this goes against all of his latter season character development and he just reverts to s1 again for no damn reason, Cersei had a quality hostage (neverminded that Missandei's capture is bullshit), and yet she didn't really try to gain anything trough her, she just killed her off, there's like a 1000 things she could have done, even if they really wanted to keep that idiotic talking party in ep 4 on the entrance into Kings Landing why didn't Cersei kill anyone there? at least the dragon? don't tell me that Cersei suddenly cares about honor or fair fights or the lives of her enemies

Retarded - specially deserved for the tacticians for episode 3, start of the episode, no one does shit, then they just send in their cavalry on a suicide mission (incredibly stupid, but not retarded), then they fire trebuchets in the direction of their own army, keep in mind the trebuchets are fired like twice and they are in the middle of the battlefield (quite retarded, but nothing compared to what's coming), then they figure out (after they loose all their cavalry and all the trebuchets) that the dragons exist and they can just fly over the battlefield and light enemies on fire, then they all retreat inside the walls cause apparently they figured out that those things exist, how many fake outs were there in that episode?, and all of that for ep 3 alone, don't get me started on ep 4

Arya becoming faceless is its own thing, and it's not s8 so I don't particularly care about it here. Seasons 5 trough 7 had their shit moments too, but they're nothing compared to characters just forgetting about the existence of enemy ships they can see clearly. That whole thing was *fun*.

Felt crammed at the end because they had so many loose ends to tie in a short amount of time which is a shame but I’ve seen worse, However I do feel my opinion may change on it after I read the books because from what I hear a lot was cut which is understandable to a degree but complete character reworks can impact a story greatly for better or worse.
