It's kinda stupid- as dumb and obnoxious as Jar-jar was, he was easily the most noble and well-intentioned character of the prequels. Obi-Wan never questions anything, Qui-Gon mind tricks people like it's going out of fashion, Padme irresponsibly gets into a relationship with her bodyguard and lies about it, Yoda and Windu are blinded by dogmas, Jango Fett was a war profiteer who killed an underpeforming underling, Nute Gunray authorized the blockade- then invasion- of a neutral planet for purely economic reasons, and I don't think I have to tell you about Palpatine and Anakin. Dooku tried to execute captured prisoners of war, but that's about as far as his on-screen evils go; the movies never actually explain why the Separatist are "bad guys" aside from wanting to leave the Republic.
Shmi doesn't actually DO anything, and just acts as an exposition and plot device, and Maul... well, Maul is morally neutral, since all he does is track down Jedi, try to kill them, and snarl. Neither actually HAD much character.
Jar-jar, on the other hand? He, despite being exiled, gets his life saved by a passing stranger, and takes on what's almost a Wookiee life-debt to him, despite it being more of an "opportune tackle" than a "dedicated risky rescue operation". He takes them back to meet the guy who exiled him, risking his OWN life to help them, then accompanies them across the galaxy and into a war zone. Granted, his sophomoric "humor" dragged down the first movie, and he DID give Palpatine unspecified emergency powers, but again: he's an obnoxious idiot.
Plus, without the mo-cap of Jar-jar, there'd be no mo-cop of Gollum.
I'd actually be more willing to accept that George Lucas is secretly a Sith Lord, since he built something truly amazing, then half-sank it, then sold it to Disney and let torture it the the point where the fans can only cry out for it to be put out of its misery.
Stop trolling
One point for stupid I suppose.
I thought Darth Jar Jar was implied based off of George Lucas's "jar jar is the key to everything" comment. But he could've been trolling us.
y'all took it too seriously. Jar jar is the key to everything because he ties the story of ep 1 together. His role is pivotal. He is a fool used by both sides
