Roald Dahl's books are being re-released by the publisher with a number of revisions that eliminate "rude" language referring to fat people and other things. Ian Fleming's James Bond series may be similarly bowdlerized to remove "sexist" language.
The revisionists claim that the changes are to make the works more compatible with modern mores and protect people from being offended. Personally I find the whole idea much more offensive than anything contained in the books.
I would prefer a simple foreword explaining the language and attitudes of the time (there's a TV channel that re-broadcasts 70's TV which has a similar disclaimer before almost every show). Pippi Longstocking books here have something similar and her father's still "king" among "savages" (or worse).
That's not to say that it should be acceptable for people, even old ones, to express those same attitudes today; they were wrong, and people aren't fixed recordings, they're capable of changing.
It's wrong, book and movies should retain its original form, they mirror both the time it was written and the mind of the authors. Everything else would be false and a lie. We need to retain as much knowledge of the past so we can learn from it. Not corrupt it to something that is a pure lie.

As I said so succinctly in the question on DST:
Its rather ridiculous. They should leave things the way they were.
It's a terrible idea. I hope no one buys them.
