Is The New Barbie Movie About Feminism?

Probably, judging by who all is involved. Maybe they'll even pay homage to "divorce barbie" (comes with all of Ken's accessories). It really wouldn't be out of character for Barbie to be anything/everything on a whim though because that's actually how she's been marketed forever. Somehow I don't think the various versions of "disabled barbie" will be making an appearance.
I'd really like to know what the earnings goal is for that movie. In my opinion, they missed the best time to make a movie like that by about 10 years.
Lol barbie has always been feminist. And one of her things was like having every job, remember? So obviously, she's "everything." She's the main character too so duh. While Ken's main thing is being the romantic interest. He got his own shit yeah, but it's just him. That's the standard. I'd expect that if they follow the source material.
When I watched the trailer, to me it looks like Barbie is popular and known by everyone and Ken is not so popular. The guy with the black hair and Ken fight for the main character? so they go on an adventure together and I think that the movie is about a romance story between the two of them? And it looks like she is doing something for Ken too in the trailer at 0:56.
I don’t know that’s just what I think
I mean its barbie, so i wouldn't be surprised

I'm just surprised Barbie is not a black transgender and fat the way movie casts work nowadays...
They have released black Barbie doll, which was Mexican I think
And overweight Barbie doll, that was just slightly curvy lmao
I wonder what trans Barbie must be like
But yes, I agree with you. If they want representation, they can just create new series and characters... But no. They're gonna redo the old ones over and over.
Nah yeah I get it, there's barbies of every colour and shapes. I just saying movie productions are so obvious nowadays the become predictable... Lots of known characters get their race and gender identity changed just to look progressive. Instead of creating new characters/movies altogether.
That's why I'm surprised this wasn't the case and in a way I admire them for not just going with the trend, and stick with their white blonde version, even though being white and blonde is nearly consider evil nowadays.
You are spot on. It is awful:

I imagine it is about Wokeism.
Ken and Barbie with be genderless , left leaning idiots who want to turn little boys into little girls and force transgenderism on every other character in the movie.
I would not be surprised if there is some song and dance diddy about the evils of patriarchy or what ever the fuck.
I'm looking forward to it then ~
I don't know anything about the movie but I checked and it's not from Disney so maybe it will be okay. Maybe.
So I just watched the trailer and it looks almost too gay to function. But then there's Margot Robbie so it might even become a guilty pleasure like Rocky Horror Movie Show.
Did I mention that Hollywood likes to use fake outrage on social media to promote their product?
You didn't. Everyone knows that one.
I don't know but from the trailer it looks like a really stupid movie. I'm surprised someone wasted money to make it
They're probably counting on Margot and Ryan to carry it lmao
I think it's going to be a box office flop
At least we won't be surprised
Agreed 👍
I mean Barbie was started by a Business Woman so it was made by feminism in the first place. Though on the other hand it may have caused toxicity on making women thinking they need to look a certain way. but so does everything I suppose.
Come on, Barbie, let's go party!
26 years ago, this hit song...
I don't know about Ryan Gosling as Ken. He's good looking and all, but I would have gone with a some undiscovered blonde Henry Cavill type or, better, like Dolph Lundren 40 years ago. Maybe Chris Hemsworth (he's Thor, right?).
As for Margot Robbie, she's very good-looking but also not bland enough facially to be Barbie. However, this is her movie (she's a producer too) and, personality-wise, she'd be good.
As much as I enjoy her and her work and who she is a person, I am still always haunted by this from SNL:

but I loved her in this from SNL...

Is Ryan Gosling good looking? I have never understood the appeal.
Film hasn't even come out yet
At least watch it before you determine whether it has a feminist agenda or not
It's hard to tell before it comes out yet. Just wait and see, no need to get worked up before you even know
kinda, but at the same time aren't feminists known for contemplating suicide for the fact that they know they will never have a body like a Barbie doll?
A body made of plastic? No thanks honey!
is not what is made of its the shape of it.
you do know a lot of girls have actually committed suicide because they did grow up to have a body like a Barbie doll. you know Barbie dolls body are almost impossible to achieve without plastic surgery. you know she is technically anorexic yet still has humongous perky boobs with wide curvy ass waist
She's a fictional character. If you don't realise that, you need help. 😊
I do realize that, however you better tell that to the parents of those girls that did committed suicide
I will
It is a sad day in showbiz when they try to release something like this...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyhrYis509A You aren't too old to remember this song I hope haha.
@TenderFantasy I do recall that song and please... make it stop!!!
I don't know, but MATEL is gonna profit from it.
Probably. Lol. I hadn't even heard that they were making a movie. But that sounds about right.
I’m genuinely curious are people scared of feminists it’s literally just wanting equal rights. I don’t know why that seems so horrible, but everyone’s unnecessary fear is very amusing.
I'm a feminist and this representative of feminism is giving me second hand embarrassment.
Fair enough, I was mainly talking in general and never really liked Barbie though so I can’t really comment on that
I've seen good feminist representation. In a soap opera no less. So I can say this definitely could have been better.
Although if the movie does feminism it may handle it poorly, you are right that many people that dismiss it having those ideas at all aren't concerned they'll do a bad job. People have many ways and reasons to feel threatened or angry at feminist ideas, and poison the well even when it's just what you say, equal rights. If people just slowed down and took ideas individually and talked on what was reasonable one step at a time I think there would be a lot more agreement.
A 100% thank you so much
At least it’s a character that has always been that way instead of changing it to fit the narrative like others they have.
The trailers are giving out mixed signals. I’ll just wait for the actual movie to hit the theatres.
More then likely , if a movie is trying to push feminism in the movie it will be obvious
Seems so, but I’m not going to judge a film I haven’t seen.
I can’t wait to watch it 🥳🥳🥳
I’ve been waiting so long
I don't know. It is hard to tell what the theme of a movie is going to be from a trailer.
I have not seen it yet
More corporate greed and pablum
Not sure but I am interested in watching it.
uuummm yes lol
