For those born in 1970 or more recently: when did you first hear of The Beatles and, if you've become a fan, how did it happen?

I was just thinking of my bass player's girlfriend who was born around 1970. Her dad was a famous local radio DJ in the `60's. I used to listen to him all the time when I was a kid. One afternoon, she took us over to her house to meet her dad and he gave us a tour of the house. We got to the basement and he showed us the bar and the dart board on the wall that was enjoyed by The Beatles the only time they played here in the early `60's! While they were here, they lived in his house. Turns out, I could've easily walked to his house in about 25:00!!
Anyway, as she and my bassist were punkers, both born after The Beatles hit their peak, I was wondering how others born in the post-Beatles era would've heard of them and gotten into them, if they have.

My parents owned Sgt Peppers and I was probably listening to it while still in my mother's womb. I give The Beatles credit for my learning to read because I knew all the words to the songs on that album and would follow along with the lyrics printed on the back. I still remember learning to read the words "diamonds" and "kaleidoscope" (I thought they were cool words).

When I was young. In the late 80s. Around 5 I think.

My parents used to listen to them, so liked them through my parents.

My favorite songs are Twist & Shout, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds & Life Goes On.

I now listen to their hits on my Spotify

I had a cousin who was ten years older than me. I spent a lot of time with him and he was a big Beatles fan. i still have a Joe Cocker album that he gave me.

@nolabels I heard a Joe Cocker song on the radio one day and thought that it was amazing that he was still alive. It was the very next day that I heard he died. I knew somebody that met him a couple of times and said what a crazy man he was.

It was the same way for me with Patrick Magoohan. I'd just finished watching the last episode of, "The Prisoner" the night before, where he finally escapes from The Village. I was eating breakfast in the kitchen and reading a couple things in the paper. I saw the bit about the b-days of famous people and wondered how old Pat would be at that point, then I joked to myself either that he'll probably be dead soon or has already died and I didn't know about it. I finished breakfast and walked into the dining room, turned on the computer, got online and the first thing I saw was a story about how he'd just died the night before!! Within a couple hours, they took down the story about him and posted one about how Clifton Webb had just died! (Or was it Ray Walston?)

How about this true story:

I woke bolt upright in the middle of a deep sleep, picked up my laptop to peruse YouTube, as I sometimes do upon waking.

All of a sudden, it occurred to me to do a search for "Prince" performances.
At the time, I wasn't a fan or non-fan of Prince.
I barely knew of him, yet there I sat, watching his best performances on YT.

Some hours later, reports began coming in that Prince had died around the time of my having woken up and then consequently began viewing him on YT.

I get chills every time I think of that.

Prince was 42 days older than me, if that has any meaning.

@nolabels I've had LOTS of instances where I'll think of someone I haven't heard from in a long time and then, suddenly, they appear, call or I find out they just died the next day.
Example, I'm at work at the print shop and I know that Dan, the guy on the cutter, has gone to lunch a while ago. I never thought anything of it. After a good while, I think to myself something about Dan and seconds later he walks through the door!!

Oh, I don't know about that! I SORT OF liked, "American Pie" when it first came out but, one night, very soon after, I was spending the night at a local church with a church group from about 20 miles away and, someone at the sleep-over got the BRIGHT idea to play that fucking song OVER AND OVER AGAIN ALL BLOODY NIGHT LONG as they tried to decipher its meaning!! Because of that, I can't STAND IT!!

From the summer of `74 onwards, I started listening to the local progressive rock station. By around 1984, they stopped progressing and, by the time I stopped listening to them in `89, it was quite obvious that they'd been playing the same records over and over again for the previous decade!! They would try to tease you, make you guess what they were gonna play next like, they'd only tell you which band was coming up next but, if they said, Mountain, you knew it was gonna be, "Mississippi Queen"!! If they said it was gonna be Rush, you knew it was gonna be "Tom Sawyer"! If they said, Queen, it was gonna be either, "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Another One Bites The Dust" or "We Will Rock You"! Pink Floyd? It was gonna be, "Money", "Us And Them" or, most likely, "Another Brick In The Wall". So, I switched to the local oldies station and found they were playing lots of great oldies from the early `60's that I hadn't heard SINCE the early `60's!! But, after about 12 years, THEY started playing THE SAME 12 RECORDS the progressive station had been playing since the late `70's!! I got so tired of that stuff, even though those records are in my collection, I don't bother to listen to them, anymore!!
