I don’t mind it.
But I find it amusing, the other day I saw a trailer of another movie, where they cast a black person in a role of a historically white person.
If I died and they took a movie about me, I wouldn’t want a blonde woman play my role, not Asian, nor black, I would want someone with Auburn hair and black eyes to get it, cause she would physically resemble me more.
I think in the name of fighting with racism people tend to do silly things, fight racism in another way, introduce us more stories of wonderful black or Asian people, make new stories, find new stories, write new scrips, don’t change what is already written and don’t change the characters from white to black or from Asian to white just because you want to sound cool.
The other day I watched a movie based on a real story, it was about black people, it was mind blowing, I loved it, i got inspired, I wanted to be like that black girl as well! I think that’s the way we should do it!
If a historically Asian person was portrayed as a white person, wouldn’t you be weirded out?
Personally I dont like it becouse its visual meduim to visual meduim and the overall feeling is that its mostly done becouse of the race, not becouse of the best fit
Overall I do hate switch like that becouse it always seem silly to me, are the preducers thinking that its impossible to make a good orignal black character? why keep taking white characters and decide to change them?
But hey maybe I am wrong, and know what I be glad to find out they picked the acctress becouse she is the best fit, and nothing to do with race, but disney seem to pick a lot of there cast on more then just fitness to the role
But always like to be proven wrong on the matter, even so will likely been even better if the taken Halle for a brand new story possibley based on a folk tale from the commuinty it self over gaking it from a story of a diffrent commuinty folktale
And for anyone saying "You don't like it just don't watch it" I likely will not if not hear something fantastic on it
But even without watching it, it will effect what will happen later on with the next movies, and personally I love for them to get back to an original story from an original source, they can do so much more with, and give people more of a taste of something different
Cause it's creatively bankrupt and just a lazy cash grab, rehash of their already existing movie as is.
So 1, a live action adaptation is stupid already cause it would never be better than the movie we've already seen.
2 yeah gender and race swapping is annoying, even if it's just cause they change an intensificat detail and act like it's a new story. It be like remaking the Mario movie with him wearing pink instead of red and expecting us to care.
3 I'd you want a black mermaid ( there literally was one in the show, maybe we could hear her backstory? Crazy idea I know) and are making huge changes to the story line anyways, just make a new fucking character, why change the plot, the characters dreams, the characters physical body, why take a name and change everything else, just write a new character.
Yup….. everything you are saying aligns perfectly with your appearance…..
@TooHot2Care and your comment matches your appearance to a T too bud.
I don't think the opposition is to her specifically, but to Disney's woke recycling of a historically white character to give sloppy seconds attention to race baiting and pandering. With Encanto, they created a new character with a distinct storyline that really captured cultural issues in her group, that was a good thing. But blackwashing an existing character is cheap and dishonest, and is rightfully blowing up in Disney's face in the form of 4000 more employees needing to be fired to cover their losses. Go woke go broke!
God damn….. it’s like nature conspired to create the most unfuckable, idiotic, overly sensitive, genetic dead ends that it was capable of making and ended up at you people….

It's just all the damn race-swapping. Instead of creating a new story, they go back to a story where the girl was a red-headed white girl and then make her a red-headed black girl.
And I mean be logical about this. If it's racist to notice such a thing... then isn't it racist to notice it and purposely change it just because? I think Netflix is taking a shit right now because they made Cleopatra (A fucking Greek woman) black... Egypt was ruled by Greeks. Before that, they took a real king from Viking history that was known for fucking other people's women and made him a middle-aged black woman. ... and I could just keep going with examples of this race swapping bullshit.
Ariel is white and they put a black girl just to go with the crying pathetic world of today that everything must include blacks or gays. If Ariel was originally black, then she should stay black, it would be the same adding a white girl to what was originally black. In this case the original has always been white so keep it white, If you want to add black then make a NEW story and place a black one. it's all ridiculous, the same reason biden chose a bunch of incompetent black gay people to be in office to fit in to whatever pathetic shit is goin on in todays world, instead of getting someone competent irrelevant of color or sexual orientation but NO they do this to fit in with what is "right" for the "woke" people of today who get their feelings hurt for anything you say or do. ICK.
Because its offensive to black people. Disney is only giving black people white charachters because they dont dare to write a story for a black person because they know anything can be racist these days. So they give black people white leftovers. Its insulting..
Ariel will always be known as the white girl with red hair. I'm not angry that a black person get seen I'm upset it has to be from white people's shewed up and spit out versions
No one is forcing you to watch it you know. The original is still available to watch.
I know. I just answered your question. You asked and I answered.
Uhhh hi, black person. No it isn’t. Gonna grab a ticket and see it just to piss y’all off.
@TooHot2Care you can watch it if you want. I dont care. Plus I'm white so feel free to eat our trach cause you people only eat the leftovers at Disney
Okay, so where’s your Black Panther? 😏
Because race swap. Lack of originality. And hypocrisy because when it's the other way around, like with the actress who will play Nani in the upcoming Lilo and Stitch movie, who is attacked because too white. Despite literally being a Hawaiian native.
But if race has no bearing on the character or story it shouldn’t matter what race they are. It wouldn’t change anything. Ariel’s race has no bearing in the film. Her voice though certainly does.
Feels like a non issue in my opinion. But that’s just me.
But it does. First because the original is a classic, and Ariel is known to be like that.
Secondly, the reason why they changed her race is just to replace a white character. It's basically saying "we don't want a white character on screen, we'll erase her like we did with the other white characters before"
And finally, the original story is Danish. A historically and in majority white country, even more at the time the story was written.
If race doesn't matter, why change it then? And why does it suddenly matter when the actress is too "white", like I said for the one in Lilo and Stitch?
Because the idea behind is to replace white people.
They will never race swap Tarzan. Could you imagine the beatings shootings and arson and riots if they had a black person play a character who was raised by monkeys?
“If it was the other way around.”
Wait, so we enslaved, terrorized, bombed, raped and fucked you over for 400+ years? Oh gee, why didn’t you say so!!!
Ooooh, the classic racist white skinny/ fat dude total lack of empathy for dark skinned people.
Well I tell ya what, bucko…..
Woke sells tickets, woke has more customers.
Don’t like it? Too bad.
Black creators and stars are the most prolific and skilled actors of this generation.
And we’re not gonna stop, so….. go somewhere and cry about it, I guess? 😏
Do you accuse people of doing drugs or being stupid every time your lack of reading comprehension, creativity , or ability to process an insult appears in your brain…?
Or is that just what you say to black people after they grievously insult you, you aren’t clever enough to come up with a counter and you want to save face without sounding too racist…?
@TooHot2Care Oh, alright, sorry, you're a troll, my bad.
Nah I’m just insulting you.
I'm not and think it's wonderful.
The people having issues with her race are idiots. She's a fucking mermaid, not a human!
And, had mermaids existed, they would have deviated from the same lineage as humans LONG ago - before there were human... and, the first humans were... ahem... Black.
I don't really care if they cast a black woman as Ariel, she's a fictional mermaid her race literally could not matter less.
I'm just sick of the live action remakes. The Lion King was worse than the original, Pinocchio was worse than the original, The Jungle Book was worse than the original. I haven't seen this yet but I'm gonna guess it's worse than the original. What's the point?
@gag37627 he got real quiet after that….
I'm not upset about her being Ariel. I'm upset about the movie looking shit. It's just Disney doing a crash grab in order to renew their copyright om the film and it shows in the costume design and lack of Disney magic. (Entirely based off the trailers)
@exitseven considering comics are shit, that would be a bad idea…
@TooHot2Care The Second Spiderman movie with Tobey maguire was based on a comic book and so was the first Spideman movie with Tom Holland. There are others as well. There were many story arcs that sould make good screenplays.
It's shoehorning a black girl into a Danish fairy tale to push diversity propaganda onto people. You know, the kind of thing that if the roles were reversed would spark massive outrage. Ariel isn't just "the voice" either. Ariel is a product of European culture and sticking a black girl into the story is like dressing up a monkey in a suit. It doesn't fit.
Man, you were just desperate to cram the word “monkey” in there, huh?
@TooHot2Care lmao Why do you care about our movies at all anyways? Jordan Peele is another anti-white retard, but he's at least trying to create original stories for black people and not just shoehorning blacks into white culture like these unoriginal jews in hollywood are doing.
“Your” movies…?
@TooHot2Care Yes. The products of my culture. The Little Mermaid is a Danish fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson. Why do you care so much about inserting yourself into a foreign culture instead of creating and promoting your own?
These saps will never be happy. You could’ve cast someone white and then they’d be mad she didn't actually have the voice like Halle does. I’m watchin the film regardless. Screw the haters
Ariel isn't black, that's why lmao
Now imagine if Disney made a live action Princess and the Frog and they made Princess Tiana some skinny, white girl with blonde hair.. people would be pissed off at that too because Tiana is originally black, not white.
But honestly, I could care less because I don't watch their live action bs anyways
I guess it's a phase, everyone used to be white and male so now everyone has to be black and female.
I think diversity is good but it gets absurd at times.
Also I'd much rather have class diversity represented than skin color or sexual diversity.
It's the same that prople would feel if Disney did a biopic of Martin Luther King Jr, played by John Travolta. It just doesn't fit.
There’s a difference between characters where race is a defining part of who they are and how people interact with them and where it has no bearing whatsoever which is the case for Ariel. Her voice is the main importance to the character.
Dude, not for nothing…? But you don’t get to fuck an entire group of people over after enslaving them, disrespect them by making inventive new slurs and methods of insulting them every generation and then try to race swap into one of OUR roles.
There is no “reverse” the fact is: you idiots outnumber us and have kept us out of roles historically, this is a fact.
What’s happening now is justice, and if the movie is good? Who gives a shit….. oh right, the angry white dudes….. so no one of import.
first of all, her hair is a rust color instead of the bright red ARIEL HAS. plus they did flounder dirty.
also there’s the fact that if we made tiana from the princess in the frog or mulan white.. people would throw a fit.
Bc grown white conservative men wanted their ideal/dream white teen girl as Ariel lol
I think Halle is so cute and def gives off mermaid vibes. Also Ariels race isn't important in her story, even in the original one.
Hoenstly having listened to her music in the past. I thought she would sound prettier. I think the original ariel has a beautiful princess voice. I would say this cover isn't so great, even though she gave it her all.
They’re bored and just want to be mad at something.
I don’t know if people were this pissed when Brandy played Cinderella, but I was a kid, didn’t give AF and loved that movie.
Im not gonna watch it
I think they all should race swap all disney princesses and see if these people like it, especially the kids. I couldn’t imagine their face when they see how their favorite princesses does not look the same like in the cartoon lol
No im not racist
People just don't understand how "acting" works. It's about audition and winning the role ahead of others for having the right voice and acting the director is looking for.
I'll watch it. If they're upset about that, then they should be upset about Disney's Little Mermaid from the 90's. It doesn't follow the story and Arial didn't look like that also.
Nobody cared. They tried to drum up fake contraversey to sell the show but its not working. Disney figures that African Americans watch the most TV. Truth is recycling old stuff isn't working.
Is the lobster still Jamaican at least?
I don't understand why anyone is upset. Who is to say if mermaids are white or black - or possibly blue and silvery like a fish?
I have no idea why. Maybe it's because they're racist, but they just don't fully realise it yet.
Yeah I thought she had a great voice too, but she just looks so different from the character that I know. It's weird, and off-putting. I've got nothing against the actress herself.
The only Disney programs I watch are The Mandalorian, The Book Of Boba Fett, and Kenobi. They do a great job with these shows, but completely destroyed the movies.
I'm upset about whore Disney making all these pointless live-action remakes of classic animation.
Nobody seemed to mind Mershaq
https://www.youtube.com/embed/uoivWO5SOu4Because Halle is black and Ariel is a white character and that is not how the movie is. Can’t mess with Disney movies, they are real life
They really aren’t real. Mermaids aren’t real

^ This.
I'm not. Fictional character, fictional setting (the kingdoms of Atlantica and Tirulia). More important things to care about.
Because you're taking a character and altering them to be different to pander to idiots who think everything needs to be non white in media now.
your saying that race wasn’t considered in a Hollywood movie? What planet do you come from?
I don't care about color. She could have been green, like the Grinch, and it had been good to me.
almost all newer movies are too woke for me to watch. The new top gun, while not an awesome movie was not ruined by wokeness
IMHO, because Hans Christian Andersen wrote her as having soft white skin.
Because they changed the character from white to black so they should have just wrote a different story since she was never black before
Cause people don’t like change “it wasn’t how it use to be”.
I honestly don't care about who plays what lol
Write a new fucking story
It has everything to do with race...
Racism I think
Probably racism
Beats me
