Do you think the animated version of Ariel in 1987 or the 2023 live version of Ariel was great. Or were they both great?

The animated film was like 9.5/10. The newer film was like 6.5 or 7/10. Initially none of the cast looked all that appealing but after the first hour, they grew on me and looked better. Ursula’s acting started off cringe but she became one of the greater castings by the end of the film. The girl who played the young human form of Ursula did her think as well. Eric and Ariel quickly became adorable but the film had unnecessary twists throughout the second hour. I guess they didn't want to fully copy the original but I don't know it didn't compliment it in my opinion. The shark chase scene lacked energy. It shouldve been way better. The CGI just looked really bad there. I wish Flounder and sebastian couldve looked like the animated versions. Scully was surprisingly good throughout but i hate the way Awkwafina ruined some of the songs. Tbh, her little rap was her best vocal piece the entire film. Overall, the film was good at best but not worth paying for and not worth buying on dvd. Its tv movie good at best. Still, i wanted to show support for Halle plus Ariel/Eric were my fave couple as a kid, so i couldnt pass that up. Any Little Mermaid is better than that sorry 2018 film with the guy from Narnia
I noticed many live versions of the animated films kinda throw things of bit. Have you seen the Last Airbender? The animated series were way better and effective, then the movie. Always wondered why they never made another one 🤔
I couldnt get into the cartoon even though i felt the characters looked beautiful. So nah i never tried the live
Thanks for mho
You're most welcome. Thanks for all the great answers to many of my questions 😀
Anytime :)
I consistently rank TLM as near the bottom of "classic" Disney 2D animated movies, but it is a masterpiece by comparison to the remake, in every meaningful category imaginable. Upwards of 90% of the remake was made using CGI, so they should honestly just drop the "live action" facade. They should also stop ruining their own stories and make new ones instead, because the only live action remake that was even decent was the first one, Cinderella.
I'll take animated Ariel any day.
