What's Your Favorite Movie & Why?

Several options. The original "Ghostbusters." "Risky Business." "Remains of the Day." "Tora! Tora! Tora!" "Midway." (The original 1976 version.) "Patton." "The Omen." (Actually, all three movies - I like horror films rooted in a bit of legend and religious beliefs.)

All of those rank high in my book. However, probably my all time favorite is "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." Great movie. Light hearted. Slightly satirical. Funny. No profound lessons, just shut your brain down and have some fun. Brings back not a few high school memories and puts them in overdrive!!

Yeah, I know, not the most profound movie and as you can see from the list above, I am a fan of historical movies and generally am pretty serious. There was just something about Ferris Bueller - and I went into it as a skeptic - that just lightened the day and game me a laugh.

Great movie and perfect to take you away from hard times.

When the smoke from the wildfires in Quebec made it down to the New York City area in early June, all the experts kept saying some version of, "The air quality right now is like smoking six cigarettes in one day." Every time I heard that, I kept thinking about this scene from the Ghostbusters:

I still yell the "mass hysteria" line at work all the time, since construction sites are quite often just that.

Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis wrote very few specific lines for Bill Murray in this movie. They just had a general outline of who they wanted Peter Venkman to be, and Murray did rest. In fact, just when that clip ends when the scene switches to the motorcade, that was just before another of Murray's improvisations, when he yells, "C'mon! Let's run some red lights!"

That's a tough one. I'm not sure I have an overall favorite, it depends on genre.

Comedy - Spaceballs

Adventure - any of the Mission Impossible films

SciFi - Star Trek - The Voyage Hone

Romance - Pretty Woman

Christmas - it's a Wonderful Life

Classics - The Wizard of Oz

Musical - The Sound of Music

Hot Fuzz. One of the funniest movies around, great parody, great acting, great British humour and plenty of memes came out of it. Would like to give some honourable mentions to Wall-E and Monthy Python and the Holy Grail.

MirrorMask, due to the uniqueness. It's basically an artwork movie with Neil Gaiman's work.

Open Range

It is Open Range with Kevin Costner and Robert Duval. It is a cowboy movie but it is a lot more than that. It deals with many themes like justice vs. vengeance, redemption and loyalty. The cinematography is great and the actors all put in amazing performances. Next time it is on the Grit channel you should check it out.

That movie would have been so much better if the director understood that you could only fire six shots with a revolver, then you have to reload. Sorry to piss on your parade but that kind of thing really irks me.

The Gentleman Caller on Alfred Hitchcock Hour back in 1964. I like this one because this guy and his girlfriend tried to do away with this elderly woman, but she was one step ahead of them and this gas man called the police on them. If you get to watch it do so, it's a great to watch and has a calming affect.

I don't even have a top ten of favorites, but Back to The Future and Office Space immediately come to mind. Fuck you got Empire Strikes Back, The Last Crusade, Beetlejuice, Dirty Work, 12 Angry Men, Friday, Braveheart, Clerks, and Forrest Gump. All 11 of them are awesome movies!

Reach For the Sky. True story of Douglas Bader. Lost both legs before ww2 and still flew spitfires and hurricanes during the war. Was my childhood hero.
