What do you think of the music industry?

There's two sides to this question. One about the public face of it. Which i have mixed feelings about because it's arguably almost never been more entertaining from the perspective of the fan who keeps up to date with the scene but it's terrible because of the music being made and lack of diversity. The development of the industry into being owned by these behemoth, conglomerations have been a major issue which is oddly very relevant to the second face of the answer.

According to a paper by Goldman Sachs (And most producers who comercially participate in in the music industry) the dependence on these large labels is on a track to turn to almost zero. There is way too little incentive to sign with one compared to ever before, it costs less to get started. Anyone could do it by themselves and have a great deal of success follow afterwords. All it takes is a $300 laptop and a $99 sure sm58 which is arguably the most tried and true microphone ever built and the willingness to get good at it. It's going to be interesting to see how creativity in the music industry is affected because this change is very likely to diversify music as artists rely less on what boils down to spending competitions between labels.

The music industry is poised for major change. It's let's hope it goes where it looks like it's going.

Overall good. But if I would call out any genre for playing a part in the detriment to society it would honestly be rap. Lol it’s very degrading to both men and women. I still listen to it tho 💀

I think I'm similar to others when it comes to the melodies and tonal ranges I appreciate and like in a song but I restrict myself to mostly Jewish music cause I know their music is more likely to contain positive lyrics. I am not saying morally pure lyrics alone but also positive lyrics. A friend from church told me if you listen to music that sing about bad things happening to you, those things are more likely to happen to you in your life. I know somebody who sang about getting cancer and got cancer, an example of why I listen to Jewish music cause praising God is not going to increase your risk of cancer etc... It's not true for everybody but its true for many people.

Depends on which part of the industry. In my experience (i have a degree in this field and worked in it) its all full of back stabbing pos's that deserve to be caught doing what they're doing and taken care of. There is no place for that. We're (ones in business) all here to make money and give credit to people who deserve it.

Overall I'd say it's trash. Its a corporate machine for spewing out easy to consume, souless boring content.

There is still good music out there and plenty of it. Its just harder to find unerneath all the schlock.

Music industry has been transformed into something other than the music industry. To have a music industry, one presumes that you need "music", and a lot of the noise lately just isn't making the cut.
