Why is the superhero Supergirl not named Superwoman, while the male counterpart, Superman, isn't called Superboy?

I think this is absolutely ridiculous, but on the other hand, when I think about it, it makes sense that Superman might have taken this name because he is an adult. However, I couldn't understand why this might have been the case for Superwoman DC. What do you think about this issue?

Because in most storyline continuities, Kara (Supergirl) isn't an adult yet, but rather a teenager, and because there is already too many women in DC that are named "Superwoman" (the latest of which is Donna Troy, an Amazon Warrior that acts as a nemesis to Wonder Woman).

Pretty sure when super girl was found in comics ot better said created she was a teen where at the time Clark was already a adult by the name of superman plus I'm pretty sure it's hard to change the name now as their are other characters that use the name superwoman

Superman was called Superboy when he was an adolescent. I seem to remember that when Supergirl landed on earth that she was an adolescent. I thing maybe the name stuck.
