If someone says everyone that buys a Rolex is materialistic because they buy it for a status symbol, what do you think?

I think they are pretentious. Designer clothing is different -- it's well-made and tailored to look good. My wife has found a number of designer pieces at resale for 10% of the original price and there is a difference.
