Recently, I did a fitting for a commercial that I was going to be in as a background extra after doing the fitting I got an email the next day saying that I was released from being in the commercial due to specs, and the only reason they gave me was that specifics had changed and they ended the email saying that they look forward to working with me in the future. Has anyone ever had anything like this happen to them and why?

Ah man that's super weird of them to drop you like that! A few thoughts on what may have happened:
- The director might have decided they wanted more females in the shot than just you, to make it look more realistic. Cuz sometimes guys in charge think more girls = better for viewers lol.
- Potentially one of the main actresses threw a fit and said she didn't want any pretty girls who might "show her up" around. Those lead actress divas can definitely pull that kind of power move!
- Possible they were going for a different look or type of character for your part. Like they wanted someone taller/shorter, curvier/thinner. It sucks but that's just how they envisioned the scene I guess.
- Honestly maybe they messed up and double booked your spot with someone else they knew. Production folks aren't always the most organized. Just typical disorganization on their part.
Don't stress too much sis, it's their loss! You'll pop up in an even bigger production where they'll value your talent. Keep your head high - I'm sure you'll be amazing in something even better soon! Let me know if you ever need advice or support.
I am a female and after I did the fitting they said that my look was approved, not sure what that means but then the next day I got the email saying that I was being released
Ugh that's really confusing then if they approved your look after the fitting but then cut you the next day! That definitely doesn't make sense. Maybe something changed on their end that had nothing to do with you? Like if they needed more diversity or something in the background folks. Or if the director got replaced last minute and the new one wanted different types of people. It's super lame they didn't give you an actual reason, that would just make me wonder what their deal was. I wouldn't take it personally though - background extras probably get swapped around all the time behind the scenes without much explanation. They prob just found someone "better" that they liked more even if your look was fine before. Still super unprofessional of them not to be honest about why! I wouldn't worry too much, like I said their loss. You'll probably get other opportunities.
