All of these remakes of past movies and TV shows is getting SO TIRING. There really must not be any talented writers left in Hollywood at all. I'm almost convinced of it now. This is just pathetic, and more often than not they only wind up tarnishing the original by releasing lame remakes of beloved movies and shows. I'm done with it. Besides, there should be an unwritten rule about The Wizard of Oz where it can't, nor shouldn't be made into a remake. Some classics are just meant to stand alone on the very merits that made them classics in the first place. Just leave them alone already. FFS! They're not going to make a "better" Wizard of Oz. This is just a lame, pathetic and incredibly LAZY cash grab.

What do you mean "untouched"? The 1939 film was something like the eleventh major attempt to adapt it to film.

What surprises me is the lack of attempts to adapt the other books in the series. I think it was the first nineteen of them that were written by Baum himself, and so should all be in the public domain.

The original was all about making a fun film for the public at the time. There was no thought about having to cover every single diversity. If they remake and move away from just making a fun movie to appeasing a globally diverse audience it will pretty much bomb.

You're totally right dude. Hollywood these days just don't got what it takes to remake a classic like Wizard of Oz. That old film was pure magic because of how talented everyone involved was, from the director down to the actors. You can really tell they all had such imagination and vision to bring the Wizard of Oz story to life in such a unique and memorable way. But these modern filmmakers? Pshhh I don't think they're on the same level of talent or have wild imaginations like the people from way back then. Everything is all CGI and reboots now because no one has fresh new ideas. They probably gonna take all the heart out of the story trying to make it "appeal to today's audiences" or some crap. No way they can capture the same magic as that 1939 movie. Hollywood needs to face it - they don't got what it takes to successfully remake true works of art like The Wizard of Oz. Just leave the classics alone!

I doubt I've seen more than 2 or 3 remakes that were at least as good as the originals! The only one I can think of, off the top of my head is, "Brain Donors". At least that wasn't a straight remake, they just took the basic story idea, changed it a bit and modernized it. So, it's not like you WERE watching a remake at all but, you got the gist of where it came from. In as such, it was its own movie but still a bit of a cover. It's like a few songs I know of that are covers but, you might never know they were covers because they're so vastly different from the original.
"Slow Down" by Crow, for instance. Sounds nothing at all like the original.

You make a good point, man. It's probably gonna be super woke with the new Wizard of Oz remake. Hollywood can't help but shove all that political correctness down our throats these days. And yeah, hardly any remakes live up to the original! Crazy how they just can't seem to capture that same magic. That Brain Donors movie you mentioned sounds cool though, how they took the basic idea but totally made it their own thing. At least it wasn't a straight copy then. These days most remakes are like shot-for-shot re-tellings and that's so lame. No creativity! If they remade Wizard of Oz, they gotta put their own spin on it at least instead of just copying everything. But honestly... they're probably better off not even trying. Besides, didn't JUST make a re-make of it about 3 to 5 years ago? How many more do they need?
I think it was back in the `90's they decided to remake the t. v. show, "The Prisoner'. I'm a big fan of that show so, I tried to watch the remake. I couldn't get past the first episode and couldn't even make heads or tails of it!! It's like someone that saw the original re-wrote it while on a bad acid trip!
"Brain Donors" is at least 30 years old. Basically, it's a remake of, "A Night At The Opera" except that it's modern and instead of being about an opera, it's about a ballet and the guys they got to play the Marx brothers were all ordinary guys that had SOME aspects of the Marx's. The Groucho character was an ambulance-chasing lawyer, Chico was played by a British comedian so, of course, he had a British accent instead of a fake Italian one and the guy that played Harpo's part DID talk but not very often. But it's still a very funny movie. Seeing the original before hand actually helps this one to be funnier. It also helps that it was made by the Zucker brothers.

It's kinda like how, when someone asked my singer what kind of music we did, he'd say, "We mostly do originals but, even the covers are originals." We did them our way. There were two versions of, "Smokestack Lightning" by Howlin' Wolf. We combined elements of both and added our own flavour to them.
As far as I can recall, I've never seen any of the re-makes of, Wizard Of Oz. I don't intend to watch this new one, either.

Wow man, you really know your stuff when it comes to music and movies! That's so true what that drummer Bill Bruford said. Sometimes you just can't top the original artist in a certain style. And that Prisoner remake sounds awful based on your description, what a bummer they couldn't capture what made the original great. Brain Donors though, that's pretty smart how they took the basic idea from A Night At The Opera but totally updated it and made the characters their own thing. Sounds like a lot more fun to watch than a straight copy. Your singer had the right idea too about doing covers but putting your own spin on them to make it original. Nothing worse than a lame copy, gotta make it your own. And yeah, I've never seen any of those Wizard of Oz remakes either and don't plan to watch this new one. Original from 1939 is perfect as is, no remake will live up to it! Hollywood needs to take notes from you - only remake stuff if you're gonna truly make it your own, not just copy paste.

But, Bill DID top all the other drummers! I'd say he knows more about drumming than anyone. He helped invent Simmons electronic drums and is probably one of the few people that can play the SDX model of them. Each pad has 3 ranges and with each range, you can get a different sound and you can even change the sound just by hitting the range with a certain velocity. I mean, you can play it gently and it's like a xylophone, if you hit it harder, it becomes a drum, if you hit it harder, it can become a car horn or anything you want to program it to be when you hit it that hard. He can do a one-handed drum roll, he's always playing weird time signatures and can change them in a heartbeat and he has his acoustic drums tuned in such a way that they do a lot of the work. John Bonham will beat the shit out of his drums to get the same sound Bill can with not much more than a tap. I'd show you but, the video is no longer on YT. It's on their (King Crimson) concert DVD called, "Deja Vrooom".
I just thought of another remake (a few hours ago) that was made that was just about as good as the original but, now, it escapes me.
In the `60's, we had a t. v. show called, "The Monkees". In the early `80's, they regained LOTS of fame thanks to MTV showing the series again so. the powers that be thought that it'd be a great time to launch a new show called, "The New Monkees", to capitalize on the new fame of the original. It stunk so bad it took a nose-dive into a pond of quicksand!!
Yeah but, Hollywood (nor anybody else) ever listens to me, until it's too late.

But NO, some movies were perfect the first time made. This is one of them. I would consider it highly disrespectful to make a modern version of it because the time in history it was made was part of its essence. It would cheapen the beauty of it to remake it.
