Is rock music dead?

Rock music used to be the music of aggression and anger. And the artists that conveyed that were excellent at that role. But as of late that role seems to have been hijacked by political entertainers - mostly right but also some left - few of which, it is worth mentioning, play any instruments or sing.

It is slightly odd to think that ~50 years ago killing rock music because it was "devil music" was all the heart's desire of the Christian right. And now they seem to have succeeded by harnessing the anger but discarding all the art.

Oh no, rock is nit dead at all. While yes it is not as much prevelant in the charts, it is far from dead. Not sure about the anger part. I mean there is punk rock which is anything but right winged, but I wouldn't call it music with anger.

I suppose I'm mostly thinking of Metallica. I haven't really seen anything fill the void left by their semi-retirement.

Oh ok. Yeah I mean specific bands are not as active anymore. I never heard metallica that active, so not sure what would be a good alternative. There is a lot of great independent bands worth looking into.

no, but it's not nearly as popular as it was before the mid-90s. It's slowly on it's way to being a niche genre along with jazz or the blues. Rap, hip hop, pop, and EDM are becoming more popular as fewer people like music with actual musical instruments.

Its not dead. Not even close. But it certainly doesn't sound like Aerosmith and REO Speedwagon anymore. The sound has changed a lot but it is very much alive.

@handsomelad70 For the same reason I don't like rap; it's just dreadful! It's loud and cacophonous, the notes jarring and out of synch. And why do they scream so much?

No, but when acts older than I are the favourite touring performers, rock is in dire need of new blood.
