I wouldn't even think about someone's reaction to my own natural reaction in a theater, you go for the experience. I've had people randomly make generous offers and I was overcome with emotion. That was more in the face, and unexpected. That made me a little embarrassed as it made them uncomfy.

I’m not sure embarrassment is the best word. Shame fits better. I deliberately avoid movies in the theater that could potentially motivate the waterworks. Men aren’t allowed to do that without tremendous negative consequences.
