Have you ever read Moby Dick🐋📖?

It's one of my favourite American books.

Though I don't exactly approve of the killing of whales.

Moby Dick is one of those books everyone knows without having read it. I already know how it ends and I’ve seen enough parodies to know that the book tells the tale of Ishmael and his fevered obsession with killing the albino whale whose name shares the book title. The story is more or less a documentation of his dissent into madness while actively putting his crew in danger and finally perishing in a battle he could never hope to win on his own. Ultimately it’s a story about how obsession ruins not only you and everyone around you, but also the importance of support in one’s ambitious endeavors and how that ambition can eat you alive if you zero in too hard.


It’s mentioned in a short film called “The Chameleon” where they find a fictitious man who can change shape and blend in with any other kind of human, it’s kind of funny if you ever give it a watch.

Yes I have read it. Lots of stories within a story... a cautionary tale of obsession.

I have. And one of its chapters begins with: "The crotch alluded to on a previous page deserves independent mention", which may well be the greatest opening line in the history of literature.

It’s an excellent book, it reminds me of Jules Verne‘s books, my favorite author.
