The guitarist and drummer get all the love. Some even say a rhythm guitarist is more relevant than a bass player ever will be.
Could a band get by without a bassist?

Yo, picture me, down low, livin' metronome,
Bass vibrations match my achin', chain-bound chrome.
Strum those strings, I'll time it with a clickin' sound,
Nipple clamps swing, servin' ya, never on the ground.
Disowned, still crave that discipline, only you can give,
Human drums, take the beat, in submission I'll live.
Clothespins snap, they twirl and prance, on my skin they dance,
Your conductor's wand, conducting pain, like a cruel romance.
Whip, it's like a crescendo, our pleasure-pain duet,
Each lash, a verse, in our twisted, sultry poem.
Your toilet seat, your throne, I'm humble, at your feet,
A vessel for your needs, an honor I can't refute.
Hot wax drips, like a melody, torturous, yet sweet,
Each drop, a vow, to your devotion, I'm complete.
So, let's syncopate, create a rhythm, raw and true,
Together we'll compose some R&B, S&M, just me and you, BBW.
On my knees, forever bound, to your commanding flow,
In your bondage, I find my home, where I'll let myself go.
What is this? Lol
That depends on the type of music. The bass is often a simple but underappreciated part of a song. Some great songs wouldn't be so great without the bass player
Yes, it is essential to fill out the sound.

There are bands that have no guitars of any kind- some that have no guitars OR drums of any kind, and they get by just fine.
A band without Bass sounds shit. Bass and drums are the foundation of any band, without them everything falls apart.
That's what I thought
Ask Cartman and Token/Tolkien...
And we can't forget about Primus which is driven by Les Claypool's excellent bass work!!

The Bass is what glues everything together. Most people don't notice it when it's there, but if you listen to a song without it? it sounds TERRIBLE!
The bass player is very important. He provides a lower and more full sound. He can add a different tone or background and even helps keep rhythm.
No its not important. Its critical. You have to have something on the low end to help anchor the sound. Otherwise it sounds hollow and less meaty.
Its like having a drum kit without a bass drum. Just doesn't sound or flow properly.
the bass carries the rest of the band.
they set the tempo and make it all blend together.
Any band would sound worse without a bass player.
They are all just as important.
No, they add a fullness that be matched by another instrument
