TBT... How old does a song have to be for you to consider it a "Throwback"?

For me it used to be anything I listened to in college... But folks under 30 seem to think anything past a couple of years is "old"... What do you think, guys and gals?

Found this "TBT Best of Maroon5" to kick things off... What's your favorite Throwback tune?

A throwback for me could be anything from elementary to high school days that remind me of experiences I've had with friends and family, and when there were trends with specific songs like:

It Wasn't Me - Shaggy which was released in 2000

Linkin Park - In the End which was released in 2001.

Bring me to Life - Evanescence which was released in 2003.

Demons - Imagine Dragons released in 2012

The Nights - Avicii which was released in 2014.

And many many more obviously. But usually around those times

I knew all those songs until you said Avicii lol. Thats just not an edm artist i got into. Anything by Imagine Dragons is def a hit but not a throwback to me at least. But Omg you dont know that commercial! It was def played daily on tv/youtube some years ago lol 😂

I associate songs with experiences, therefore for me a throwback song is not always necessarily an oldie, but a way or recalling certain periods and experiences in my life.

I particularly remembering hearing a Luther Vandross song on the radio, called Dance with my Father again. The song came out in the early 2000's, but I heard it again in 2018 soon after I lost my Dad. I will always consider that my greatest throwback song because of it's poignancy!

Im a 90s baby but Throwbacks to me are often 90s and early 2000s songs. I also call those “nostalgic”. Anything older than the 90s is more of a “classic” or “old school hit”. Anything 2010+ is more of just a “smash hit” or like a “oh this is my jam” but not necessarily a classic or throwback

Most of the music I genuinely enjoy came out before I was born, and even most of the newer stuff I enjoy is by bands / artists who also predate my birth. I guess to me anything I heard my parents listening to, so from my dad rock/metal/Prog from the 1980's and earlier, and from my mom more Pop stuff from the New Wave Era back to the early 1960's. Oh, and my mom loved Motown and Stax, so those as well.

Makes sense. One of my first few faves were the Beatles, Byrds, etc. bc that's what my folks listened to... then classical, jazz and big band whenever I was with my grandparents. (I still have a big old soft spot for Benny Goodman (<3), Duke Ellington (<3, <3) and Glenn Miller (<3, <3, <3).

He was kind enough to say hi to me and my kids, who knew who he was, but then older members of my family didn't know who he was and I had to explain. He took it well enough and shook a million hands, till I apologized bc I knew the questions would never end and the guy and his companions probably just wanted to go to their private seating area and have some downtime.
