The Bridge on The River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia, Saving Private Ryan, Letters from Iwo Jima and Flags of Our Fathers. River Kwai bc of what British prisoners of war managed to do; Lawrence of Arabia bc Peter O'Toole was magnificent and it's not a commonly known story about what went on there during WWI; Private Ryan bc it is based on a true story, was one of the first really graphic war movies, and was loosely based on a true story of two brothers; Iwo Jima and Flags of our Fathers bc they are companion movies based on the Pacific battle and showing it from both the Japanese and the American perspectives. There aren't a lot of movies about the WWII Pacific Theater and my grandfather was there, so that was fascinating for me. I really, really hate violence but, for some reason, I like good war movies. I think it's because of the sheer, raw emotion and, especially, the bravery it brings out in men. I can never express how I feel about those men who have fought for good causes. And for any man who spends time in the military bc they don't know what they may end up facing. Three generations of my family were military. I remember being on a huge navy ship when I was 3 years old, to visit my dad in San Diego. I thought he must be the most important guy in the world! And he was, to me.
