What is your favorite Gene Hackman role?

Actor Gene Hackman died (or rather, was found dead) earlier this week at the age of 95. He began his career in the Marine Corps, then moved to New York to purse a career in acting. After completing his last role in Welcome to Mooseport (seriously, WTF was he thinking with that one?), he wrote several novels before retiring for good.

I remember him most from Lex Luthor in the Christopher Reeve Superman films and as Captain Ramsey in Crimson Tide.

Those would be my picks. He made a great villain, but also a great "unknown" (where you didn't know if he was good or bad). He had a strong force of will that demanded respect and often instilled fear. Even his outing as Lex Luthor (in a role that was intentionally written in a cheesy way) was given gravitas by his acting ability.

He was known to be difficult to work with, and especially intolerant of any lack of preparation or professionalism, but you can't argue with the quality of his work.

Wasn't he in a Bonnie and Clyde movie 🎥? By that Jewish American director? Didn't he portray a guy who uhhh yeah it's a bit grisly in that scene in the movie chase. If he's the actor I'm thinking of in that character scene of the version of Bonnie and Clyde hmmm 🤕

What’s wrong with Welcome to Mooseport? I enjoyed it. Unforgiven and Runaway Jury were good.

A role that he is not proud of doing so I'd rather not even acknowledge it (though you already have, so there's your hint). I don't care for Gene Hackman. I don't celebrate what happened to him (whatever that was). But I'm not going to mourn him either.
