Why does america censor/edit so many "wrong" things?

I'm watching anime youtube videos about how america tends to censor and edit a lot of things the japanese originals did. while i do see some of the original as being pretty dark, such as people getting their legs chopped off by electric blades, others seem unnecessay to edit out, like in sailor moon, they had the girls talking about how should play snow white. in the original they had it be about who had the biggest breasts, while in the American version, it was about who had the best talent.

You'd have to ask the localizers themselves in most cases, though I recall Sailor Moon was originally on TV just a bit after school let out, so knowing that the audience would likely be younger kids was probably a major factor on that one. In fact I would assume especially back in the days before streaming services and anime mostly being picked up by kids networks that this is how it started.

A lot of it in a modern sense is purely a power trip by localizers, and the stuff they choose to censor (or outright change) is nonsensical and clearly has nothing to do with making a show accessible for younger audiences, but instead pandering to people with specific phobias or pushing a DEI checkbox. The latter one in particular has apparently prompted Japan to start using AI instead of localizers at least in some cases.
