I watched "Unhinged" a film with Russel Crowe, in which he played a 300 pound bloated, toad, road rage freak, chasing a woman around the town to get 'revenge' for some imagined slight she committed while driving. Crowe had cemented his very positive image in Gladiator, as a heroic icon, that I admired for years after seeing the film. For him to have gained 200 lbs and NOW playing a "thug' in a pick-up truck forever put a blotch on his image as a good actor.
I have seen other actors, Matthew McConaughey, being one of them play in roles that left a bad taste in my mouth regarding their choice of characters they chose to play.
A friend suggested that they do that to show their RANGE of acting ability, and I disagree, because they have already established their acting ability, thus, their ability to play varied roles with talent.
I often think they are simply in need of money, and will take anything offered, with Russell Crowe needing counseling, and Jenny Craig, weight reduction meals as he as become a real life Pillsbury dough boy.
Any thoughts on the matter?
Russell Crowe will NEVER bounce back... maybe be 'rolled back"
