What do you think about someone calling themselves respected in their own biography?

There’s this twit, I knew from college, and on his website, he calls himself respected. By who? Not by me. Unfortunately he’s had some opportunities he shouldn’t have. Luckily, both his congressional campaign have failed, but still more support than he should have.

If someone says they themselves are respected, I immediately am suspicious.

If someone I respect says they're respectable, I believe it until I see evidence otherwise.

If I know they are not respectable and they've shown me this, no amount of people telling me they're respectful will work. Not even their own biography.

That said, someone running for congress and writing their own autobiography is automatically untrustworthy.

Difficult to say without knowing the person. However if the person complains few sentences later that others bullied them all the time, than I would think "respected" was just some kind of sarcasm.

In my experience those who claim any kind of moral standing are insecure in that moral standing. Respectability is for others to state. Saying it about one's self is a red flag to me, and makes me think the opposite is most likely true.

Some people are just so full of themselves that they don't see how ridiculous they look.
