What do you think may be a reason why some people disable comment section on their YouTube videos?

I am assuming it’s to avoid people writing insulting comments. They probably want to avoid giving themself a headache or heartache.
People writing insulting comments online in YouTube comment section underneath videos were comments are not disabled is not uncommon at all.

One youtuber I follow just disabled the comments of her last two videos, even though the first was open when I first saw the video because she was discussing some scandal that had happened in her family without trying to reveal the details of it, and some people had come in the comments and revealed the details, causing everyone to go off. The follow up video was her saying, that what the family had said was 100% true, but that she was turning off the comments because she was done with discussing it.

I've seen video comments shut off because of pervy comments towards kids/teens in videos, or hate being spread towards kids/teens. Comments shut off because drama is happening and spreading. Comments shut off for serious discussions where the speaker just wants you to listen and not comment. All sorts of things. I agree that when you set up on youtube, you must expect some degree of this (which is why I don't do it because I don't need mental health issues from some strangers I don't even know!) but I also get that..just because you are on social media, it doesn't mean you or your family deserve to take the abuse, or racism, or perv crap, or bullying.

I think the you tube algorithms have forced default comment disabling on certain types of videos such as unmoving stationary audio videos.

I am also suspicious that some people have unresolved conflicts with others and do not want to get humiliated or attacked by those who seek accountability for previous wrongs.

One example is that multiple people who gossiped about me deleted their public profiles when they realized the gossip they spread about me was not true. They can’t handle the moral obligation of compensating me for their slanderous remarks.

Another possible reason is because of the number of scammers out there they want to prevent there video being a platform for people to get scammed.

Probably the same reason that some video creators disable your ability to see the number of "likes"

Moderating comments on websites like YouTube is so time-consuming.
