Does YouTube remove unpopular or unfriendly comments now?

When did that start?

The comment section used to stay exactly the same even if you came back years later but now some comments just disappear.

Is it to use less storage or just to police the tone of the conversation?

It just seems weird. Even if it's just a small unimportant part to me youtube comment sections are like history. So it's sad that they're being amended without any input from the actual people who wrote them. Don't get me wrong some of my own comments from the past, I'll delete them myself, but some get deleted that I wouldn't delete.

I’ve seen Left Wing and Right Wing complain, the only thing I can think of is optimizing advertisements to track you based on cookies / playing them at the time you would most likely see it as a user is probably ruining the comment system.

OR in their attempt to deal with the spam bots, they are accidentally deleting real people’s comments.

Pretty stupid whatever the reason.

Yeah they been doing that for a long time now. I think certain words or phrases are auto censored

Yesss. You can't say shit on YouTube nor TikTok.

But actually TikTok is worse, because you can get your comment deleted for saying something like "that's gross" but every time I report actually offensive comments or ones that bully others or are racist etc it says "the comment doesn't violate guidelines". I recently reported one that was talking about doing a mass shooting if people keep mixing, which even if it was bullshit (though could very well be real) shouldn't be allowed to post potential threats like that. It came back as no guidelines violated :)

Personally, no prob with me, I view YT comments as just comedy and punchlines, really nothing important I would wish to keep for posterity lol.

Going even further I wouldn't shed a tear if internet ceased to be an opinion column for every single bored guy or gal. I won't miss it because this isn't how I use internet. I'm still defending the idea that things should get policed way much more than they are in public places of internet, just the way things are policed in the streets as well.

So yeah I can totally imagine a very much policed version of public internet, which would throw away many many users, good riddance then. It would also terminate a juicy market for megacorps making billions in setting up platforms consisting in pouring oil & fire & oil & fire for ad revenue, so good riddance as well.

While that, we could keep private chats, and private places of internet as free as they want to be.

Something to think about... maybe they don't want to have to pay CLOUD for storing them.

Just like on GaG, we used to be able to see ALL of our followers (on the app at least) now we can only see about 10-12.
