YouTube gave a half baked explanation as to why they removed dislikes. Nobody asked for it and no YouTube personality actually thinks it's a good idea. From MKBHD, Linus Tech tips, Unbox therapy and more. They've all voiced their opinion and YouTube remained silent. What do you think?
I archive content (like screenshots) pretty frequently because ever since platforms started smothering certain ideas and opinions, I knew where it was headed. This is why i have these old screenshots along with many others. What is censored now will be "illegal" later. No matter the explanation, the truth is revealed by the result.

Dog piling for the sake of dog piling. Once it becomes a meme to dislike a video or channel it becomes a steam roller. From the yearly youtube video, that i don't have any sympathy on that front to content creators pushing the limits of new content that i have sympathy for.

Youtube make its money with the attendance of people being there. A video with a negative voting doesn´t invite you to stay there and keep watching. So if many people left Youtube because all the videos had a negative rating Youtube would lose much money. Therefore from preventing that happening Youtube just shows the positive rating to keep their viewers longer on the plattform.
Because major companies like CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, Disney, and many others were getting their asses ratioed like crazy, and they were looking bad… more to the point, statistics like “how many people hated it” are usually confidential internal use only documents that the public had neither the interest in nor access to, and YouTube was publishing those numbers on the video’s YT page. At least that’s my opinion!
I don’t know about Disney being a bad company but I notice 343 industries was like that mostly when halo infinite was released and had so many microtransactions to get skins
Throughout the pandemic, the legacy media, with their covid propaganda, fear mongering and destruction of peoples' lives and liberties - uniformly had downvote to up ratios of more than 10:1. The media, news and corporate interests tried to desperately keep this sense going that the only dissenting views were from fringe right wing lunatics, rather than having any popular support.

Incidentally, it's clearly bad for the safety and integrity of the website, since we can no longer quickly spot which videos, some of which may be pretty harmful, are flagged as such.

It's to stop "gaming" the system that the option is removed from the front end. Obviously they don't want to give away how or why they are catching people gaming the system.
Just like cops will never give all the information at a murder scene. They keep some back as only the murderer or someone at a scene will know it and get themselves caught.
YouTube is basically an appendage of the Deep State and one political party now. What started out as a place where any amateur could make a video and even earn some ad revenue if they were clever enough, is being turned into just another tightly controlled and censored Deep State media outlet.
To clarify, they removed visible dislike counts, a viewer can still mark a dislike on a video, and the video poster can see the dislike counts. YouTube's reasons in their explanation video are more PC than anything else. I'm guessing the real reason is that a lot of dislikes on a video discourages people from viewing it, and that cuts into the revenue that YouTube makes.
It is a feature that has no real legitimate use and can be abused by malicious actors. The best I can say for it is that its a button people can pointlessly press if they are angry to feel better about themselves.
For the sake of screening content or judge peoples disposition to something its worthless.
I will give you an example of a legitimate use. If a DIY video has a lot more dislikes than likes, i will quickly look to the comments to see why the DIY tast isn't ideal for reasons i wouldn't have thought of.
What horseshit. There is nothing about the quality of the video that guarantees a good like to dislike ratio. Putting aside all the normal issues lets just draw a parallel.
If we take a survey of the opinion of all the people in the world, how likely is it you will get a correct answer if you ask only 10 people for their opinion? How about 100? How about 1000? How about 47.31 million which is the most liked video on youtube right now?
With 47.31 million upvotes that is equivalent to just above 5% of the world population. Even if all these represented one person, which they do not, and they voted honestly, which they did not, it is still an opinion only provably supported by a thin minority of humanity and is not statistically representative by itself.
It only takes a very small group of people to fool your test. For example, lets say the video creator offends a church with 5000 members and they go onto their video and downvotes and leaves false negative reviews. How many videos on the internet would look poorly with even such a small organized effort? This is even just a small example of the MANY problems with such a system. As I pointed out earlier, its pretty much a useless metric.
I get what you're saying. But viewing dislikes and comments isn't a method of determining fact vs. fiction. It's one factor that will allow an individual to come to a conclusion. It has a purpose. And like many other tools, can and probably will be abused. That doesn't make it useless.
I have never seen the downvote being used as "intended", mainly because that is not how people work. Only a small fraction of people viewing any video gives either a vote or a comment meaning the people who actually vote are those with the strongest and most biased views rather than the experience shared by the vast majority of people.
If everyone left a vote either up or down then this system would have more merit rather than now when an unknown radical minority does it. It is utterly unpredictable and a waste of time to even rely on slightly.
We nuked Joe Biden's videos with down votes. He was getting hundreds of thousands to millions of down votes on every videos on the White House account and like one thousand likes. Google started deleting the down votes with a algorithm to rig the results in favor of Joe Biden like the election, but we broke the algorithm through multiple updates. So eventually they caved and removed it all together because they lost the battle.
Because of liberal content having much more thumbs down than up and to continue their smoke and mirrors con job. So they disabled it. They have to keep the useful idiots dumb and still think that everyone to the right of them is an “ist.”
Because people kept complaining about how they were unfairly treated but it was actually do to their extremely poor content and the fact that they suck. Basically the same reason Instagram removed their likes was because people kept complaining
Bro, it's not just a political thing lmfao. There's plenty of things not left or right just stupid that need downvotes. I know plenty of non political men for example downvoted the Gillette ad. It's an anti consumer/viewer move, as businesses know the downvote number, but viewers don't, so quality is harder to find. Same thing for streamers, unboxers, influencers, etc.
