This feature has been going on far too long. I don't understand the purpose of that feature. Why do you think they hid it?
Seems to be the trailers for Hollywood movies. Makes sense if they are paying YouTube to advertise but there's all these negative down votes and comments that can potentially sink a movie with the potential to make hundreds of millions. Seems to be mostly woke movies, I'm sure Avatar 2 & black panther 2 sucks. I must be the only person who saw the first installments of those movies and hated them, transformers all sucked apart from Mark Wahlberg looking hot. Fast and furious movies were ok

My guess is that the videos that the leftie elites were posting on YouTube (ex. crappy, politically-correct movies from Hollywood) were being voted down into oblivion, and the like-to-dislike ratio was an embarrassment for them.
Dislikes are a broken feature that is mainly just there to give you an outlet if you are upset. It does not actually help determine if a video is good or bad or whatever. It is also very easy to abuse such as making a bunch of accounts and downvoting with them. Youtube has basically wanted to get rid of it since forever as a result but its harder to remove a feature than add a new one because people gets upset for some reason.
Because it used to hurt big corporations.
Now a big corporation can make an advertisement of some product on youtube, turn off the comments, and without dislikes there is no indicator such product is for example hurtful for children.
There was an option to turn off dislikes before, but it seems for some it was not enough.

Because there was but hurt people that didn’t like it so they hid them from the public I guess just like on here now
It's because YouTube is pretty much trying to spare the feelings of the creator, and it also looks to them like it's harassment. However, if you use a laptop/computer, and you would like the dislike feature back, here's a chrome extension that I use.
The "protected class" (mostly politicians and Hollywood marketers) were getting ratio'd into oblivion, in most cases deservedly. So they made up a story about how this was causing mental trauma or something like that as an excuse, which was obviously BS because the people who post the videos can still see the numbers.
I think with the high number of people being canceled for bullying, YouTube wants to avoid the public relations nightmare they would get if somebody attempts suicide due to persecution and abuse in the comments section on YouTube. Instagram has already faced scandals for promoting skinny models by girls who say the application encourages eating disorders in women for financial gain so they can advertise to more people.
It's another nothing burger type of "fix" of YouTube.
It was an attempt at stopping negative engagement with the affected creators, with the excuse, "we're helping people who get traumatized by negative numbers". The creators themselves can still see how "badly" the video did.
If nothing you can at least commend them for being consistent.
Yeah they shouldn't have a thumbs down or dislike on a video if I don't like a video I just don't like it. Sometimes if I do like it I don't always hit the thumbs up. I try to hit thumbs up more especially if iike it and a Series like and might leave a comment.
To control public opinion. Youtube also bans conservative politics, people like me, from monetization or making money. Even though they work within the US under our constitution, they work against free speech. They are destroying American society AKA western civilization through control and fear. Most of mainstream media push the same progressive woke agenda if you're open minded to see.
My guess big memmbers of big TV channels asked for it to be removed or they will leave
This seem to mostly happen after a few big channels got a lot of dislikes for really dumb stuffI don't get it too... the people who hate will probably still comment their hate sooo it's not even stopping that
They aren't.
Only the creators can see the dislikes.
The reason is to do with analytics and to avoid "click dumping"
I really miss the dislike button statistics.
Why? Because a lot of stupid stuff that needs to be stopped from viewership get seen by us. I guess social dilemma is true. They want us to keep guessing for good information

Because they believe it will help towards making people less negatively dog pile but many extensions exist to make it viewable anyway
The official reason is to stop "bullying"/making creators feel bad.
The assumed reason is because big companies were getting a lot of dislikes, turning them away from the website, thus costing money.Because they want to k ow so they can adjust the algorithm.
They claim it was to prevent bullying and trolling, especially of newer channels and not hurt people's feelings, but in reality it's what Cassie said.
I think dislikes discouraged people from watching videos which leads to less ad revenues for YouTube.
I use an add-on to even remove the like and dislike button.
Because they are afraid of showing public opinion.
so that the creators won't be sad or smthing. i can still see it from an extension
