The Starlight Barking by Dodie Smith. The original sequel to the 101 Dalmatians- the one Disney decided to not make into a film. It's kinda trippy and didn't sell particularly well when it was first published in 1969- a mix of sci-fi, mystery, and suspense. It explains very deep concepts on international relations and philosophy in language even a child can graph- and it's dog-themed. It was a way for me to grapple with some of life's existential questions safely at a younger age. Plus, it was a captivating, engaging read with familiar characters.

I read a lot of biographies of famous people like JFK, Babe Ruth, Teddy Roosevelt Thomas Edison and many others. , Naturally they were sanitized for kids. I suppose they were not historically accurate but they showed that greatness can be achieved if you try hard enough.

Definitely, in school we had to learn the hebrew bible and i noticed stuff, and asked "the wrong questions " and saw the rabbis, supposedly knowledgeable orthodox rabbis panic, it led me to exit judaism and search other major religions, the ones with most followers... but not if spread by fear like inquisition and sword... those millions were just scared not really obeying. If you can't sell nor buy pork then the reason you are not eating pork is because you don't have it, not obedient loyalty. Only if you could, but don't, is obedient.

I guess huckleberry Finn. It was an old book that had been in the school library since the 1930s. We were told to pick out a book to read and write a book report. My teacher was black and I got suspended and my parents called for my use of the N-word as one of the characters in the book was called N-word Jim. It influenced me not to use the n-word.

I read the Odd Thomas series in high school around that time. It gave me a significant interest in morbid subjects as well as an enjoyment in discussing what happens after we die
