Or maybe I’d liken her career arc to someone like Shakira, who was very famous already in Spanish-language music (I remember our Spanish TA in college playing one of her songs for us back in maybe like 1999), and transitioning to a pretty high level of stardom recording in English. Honestly, I don’t know if she was a songwriter or just a singer, but if it’s the latter, it’s really about being offered the right hit single and you knowing to accept it.

Related: I saw Boyz II Men in concert, and they stopped and told a story about a song they turned down back in the day, and it ended up being a HUGE country hit. I remember them building it up, like “you’re never gonna believe what song we were dumb enough to pass on!”, but then when they said it, I was just like “Never heard of it, I don’t listen to country”🤣 Anti-climactic, haha, but it was apparently a major hit. Wish I could tell you what it was, but I can’t😂 But it’s funny how a song is written with no specific genre in mind, and they just country it up or R&B it up if necessary

Most definitely! She had already set her feet in the door to international stardom. I didn't discover her until she'd been murdered but I didn't find out that she was gone until I saw the movie. Im not sure how I missed any talk on the radio about her being gone. She was great though and while I don't like jlo, I have to say she did an exceptional job portraying the beautiful Tejano.
