Have you ever thought of learning Ballroom Dancing? I visited a new Fred Astaire, dance studio in Hunting Beach and intend to start lessons?

My wife and I did a lot of 'Social Dance" (short for just moving to the music) I would like to learn some 'formal' dance. I watched Miami Vice with Colin Farrell and Gong Li, when Farrell took Li to a dance place in Havana. They danced to a great band, and I would love to dance like that with a strong, agile partner. I think they were dancing Salsa? Does anyone know what the dance was that they were doing?

My parents WASP-ised me as a kid. They nicknamed me Salem, after the famous historic town nearby and because it was a popular name for the Jewish kids I went to school with. Italian Catholic kids had to fit in. I had a friend, Ronaldo Palise (pronounced Ronny "Polici" ) who was also groomed. His name became Ron "Paleese".

We were both sent to Dancing School. We were taught ballroom dancing and public chivalry, but also table manners; standing when a girl stand, pulling out her chair so she can sit , how to dress and even how to set a formal table. Why I am literate even in old age.

We lived double lives; preppy and Sicilian, like the Jewish kids, preppy and Orthodox at home. That's how it was back then. Italian and Jewish weren't cool. But the Irish kids never fit in They started smoking and fighting early on. It wasn't all Leave It To Beaver back then.

@Sal_Monella I, too, am 'old school' if we can call it that. I stand, and I hold pull chairs out for a woman, walk on the outside when walking on the street, open the door in the car for her. Nothing wrong about being a gentleman.

I took a few lessons back in the day, it was originally cheap then they wanted like $100 an hour and that was the end of that hobby

@MikeTheBartender I am not sure what the cost is now, but I assume it is expensive and that would not deter me. My current partner is an LDR, and another is in Oceanside. It is a skill that I want to learn
