So I was thinking of writing an instruction manual disguised as a realistic fiction crime fighting novel, where the hero uses real martial arts to subdue the villains.

I think the answer is "yes", because Batman movies have been some of the most money-making films of all time. Spider-Man has also made huge incomes though.

Hero is supposed to be a vigilante, so I'll have like 20 ways to kill the bad guy with his bare hands, and several dozen ways to maim the bad guy until police arrive.

The most important thing is the character needs a backstory that is the motivation to become a vigilante. Why should we care about it?

Of course, it can be a simple as his wife and child were murdered and he's hunting one or more parties involved in that crime.
