I saw a Psychatog pro gamer LOSE a match against a deranged Hermit deck on like turn TEN, because his Psychatog deck couldn't do anything except draw cards and discard cards. That is the wrong way to build a deck around this creature.
"Grow-Tog"
4 Psychatog
4 Nightscape Familiar (Makes all the blue spells cheaper)
4 Shadowmage Infiltrator (Draw on damage)
4 Thieving Magpie (Draw on damage)
4 Man O' War
4 Quirion Dryad
4 Counterspell
4 Annul
4 Forbid
Land
4 City of Brass
4 Gemstone Mine
8 Island
8 Swamp
Pros:
Quirion Dryad serves as a second win condition for cheap.
Nightscape Familiar offsets the price of blue spells, and can chump-block things bigger than itself indefinitely.
Thieving Magpie and Shadowmage Infiltrator offer true permanent sources of card advantage.
Cons
Adding a third color means pain lands and depletion lands are needed.
Don't say, "well dreadnought beats it anyway". First of all, nobody except rich kids is even playing dreadnought. Secondly, if it beats everything, it will get banned eventually. The game is not intended to be won by playing a deck with 30 spells that say "draw a card".

Psychatog is absolutely viable in Premodern, but this specific “grow-tog” shell is pretty clunky in that format 😅
Premodern is fast, mana‑efficient, and packed with haymakers. Your curve is very high: Magpie, Finkel, Man‑o’-War all look cute but are slow and fragile vs Swords, Bolt, and combo.
Traditional UB Tog runs cheap cantrips (Brainstorm, Impulse), removal, discard, and efficient counters. Quirion Dryad and a third color stretch the mana for very little payoff, especially with City + Mine in a format that punishes shaky bases.
You’re right that “draw‑go and discard” isn’t how you should play Tog, but the real fix is lowering the curve and tightening interaction, not turning it into a midrange Grow deck 💀
wrong.
A winning deck MUST do something other than just plan cantrip spells every turn, otherwise you get overwhelmed by the person playing THREATS every turn.
the reason Dreadnought DOES NOT WORK against real decks is because it only has 4 creature cards, and they could all be at the bottom of the deck on your opening hand. Even with 30 cantrips, it could take 30 turns to draw your win condition, and you'll be dead before you ever get to play it.
Playing Cantrips and Gush every turn wrecks your own mana curve and wastes your own turn. It actually costs you something to play a cantrip: Your entire turn.
The reason the Psychatog player LOST is because his deck is just like the Dreadnought deck: It does nothing but draw cards the entire game and he used Gush and Daze so many times that he only had 2 lands on the battlefield on turn TEN, while the Deranged Hermit player had 7 lands out, including 2 MIshra's Factory. The hermit player eventually got Survival of the Fittest and played Deranged Hermit and swarmed the Tog player.
So the Tog player sides in 1 morphling from his SB, because that's all he had there (lol) and he almost won with the morphling on game 2, but the hermit player hit Deranged Hermit again and he lost. Game 2, the tog player had 5 lands out and the hermit player had something like 10 lands on the battlefield, because it went about 20 turns.
He'd be better served just playing 4 Morphlings in the main.
