For me it's chess and monopoly.
2.7K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. Backgammon
Chess is good, but, since there's no luck involved, it is mostly just pattern detection among good players. Machines can now beat the best human players which shows you that there's only so much you can do.
So, games which require intelligence, but also have some luck are both more realistic and can both give the weaker player a chance to grow and the strong player to be humbled.
Monopoly is such a game because dice are involved and the randomness of the Chance and Community Chest cards. Monopoly is definitely a fun interesting game, but you can often see when you are losing yet it takes you a long time to lose. This is so because, despite your rolls and those of your opponents, once you are behind, you will grow further and further behind.
It's just like the real world and the income and wealth gaps. Generally, in any competition, at any point in time, if you a starting at that point with more than your opponent, then you have a head start and will likely defeat your opponent.
Unfortunately, in Monopoly, the initial luck in the dice is going to hint at what will happen even if the two players are equally intelligent.
While Backgammon also involves dice, there's a lot of thinking involved regarding probabilities, so you can definitely become a much better player. Backgammon is like chess with dice involved. So, it is really the best of both worlds.

u 1 moI really personally love a game called Nightmare (although in other iterations its known as Atmosfear). Basically you can play up to 6 players that one person has an hour to beat the game or everyone loses. You go around the board collecting 6 keys then go to the middle of the board and hope not to draw your own personal nightmare. If you do, you are out of the game.
While this is all happening, a video is playing that has the timer counting to 60 minutes. Occasionally the games host will stop the rolls to make people play mini games that delays the action but the timer still runs.
If that's not enough, players can also draw Time cards that let's them do certain things at a specific time on the clock. This can range from getting keys to scaring your opponents for a reward.
The game is completely hectic but I have a blast everytime we play.11 Reply- 1 mo
Okay this sounds really really engaging.
552 opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. I beat my guy at Monopoly yesterday. 😁 I haven't played chess in the last few years, but there was a time I used to play it very often, way more than I played Monopoly.. I think I started playing when I was a toddler, lol. I went from being bad and clueless to beating the brothers who taught me how to play when I was a little. 😛
So, I was going to say Monopoly and chess, then I saw you said it first. I have one more reason to like you now, lol. 😇🫶

Awe, they both are addicting as hell.

I always saw monopoly as the game that ruins friendships lol. Saw people get into bitter fights cause someone landed on a space with a hotel on it lol...
- 1 mo
@Still-alive Ooo I remember the game where I had all hotels and home in Mayfair and Park Lane and my cousin kept coming in those area in every lap and filled my pockets, we didn't talk for 2 hours after that game lol.

haha seee yeah...
m 1 mo@Still-alive HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That made my day. Thank goodness, I finished my cup of chai before reading your comment. XD
It's funny because it's true. You know I was actually complaining a lot and annoyed because I constantly landed on his properties. I barely had money. I even said annoyingly "You bribed the game"
He was like, "whaaaaaa?" 😂😂😂 I couldn't even build anything back then, because I didn't own the set of any colour. So, I felt like I wouldn't be able to make him bankrupt if he lands on my space. Then somehow things went downhill for him. I ended up building to the fullest. On multiple places... he ended up going bankrupt because of landing on my space too many times. The most expensive one I owned was the reason why he couldn't play anymore even after put everything he owned on mortgage. As he landed there twice. XD- 1 mo
wow sounds like you completely turned it around on him lol. comeback of the century!
m 1 mo@Still-alive Heck yeah!!! ;D

For me it’s Catan and Dixit. 🎲
Catan because I love the mix of strategy, negotiation, and a bit of luck, it feels like a social puzzle every time. Dixit because it’s pure art and imagination, like playing inside a surreal movie or painting. Those dreamy cards are insanely inspiring for drawing and character design. 🎨✨10 Reply

1 moSmess (The Ninny's Chess), Backgammon, Mousetrap, Shoots And Ladders, Parchisi, Sorry, Trivial Pursuit (I have The Beatles edition), Stadium Checkers, Po-Ke-No, Chinese Checkers, Battleship (true, it's not exactly a board game but, when dad taught it to us years BEFORE Milton Bradley made it into the game it is, we'd cut open a cereal box and draw the game boards onto the blank insides of the box and play it with just a pen), and, when I was a kid, I always liked Candyland and there was some other game having to do with Cherries that I liked a lot.

m 1 moI can't stand Monopoly, I can't, I can't, I can't, this game is like torture. An impossibly slow and boring torture. I'm certain the damned souls are forced to play Monopoly by whatever Hell's mafia boss.

Give me card games instead, at least there's some action and thinking, or at the very least just fun. From UNO, through tarot up to complicated ones like MTG or something.

You can play time-bound monopoly too! It can last for 30 mins or 1 hour or whatever you want. The person with most assets by the time ends is the winner.

Monopoly has a dominant strategy, though. Run around the board a lap and a half or so. Trade your left kidney to be the first to get a set. Mortgage anything else you have and ramp hotel development. Sit back and:
- Laugh while every other poor sucker goes bankrupt, or
- Go bust yourself super-fast, allowing you to spend your day happily doing other things while the others play amongst themselves.

For two players I like Stratego the most, followed by Battleship.
For solo, I like Final Girl.
I do have a special 10 player edition of Clue, but I never got the opportunity to play that version.

I just noticed, its English title has been changed to "Catan". Probably to differentiate it from the popular computer game series of the same name.
