A lot of modern “dance” culture got standardized around the four-on-the-floor disco/EDM beat 🕺🏻
Clubs, DJs, even pop producers lean on it because it’s predictable, easy to follow, and works for drunk or distracted crowds.

People absolutely can dance to other grooves, but many are out of practice. Your band probably had real dynamics, swing, and feel, which actually makes dancing more fun, just less “automatic.”
