You have to be specific in this case. You can't just race bait and call for a specific race to replace another. If you want to replace a specific actor/actress, then you have to say who. Anyone trying this will have their comment removed.

I don’t wanna “race bait” as you call it but the truth is, most poor casting choices involve a race or gender swap that makes the whole thing look way out of place and take away from the immersion of the story


For instance:
The actress they got to play Helen of Troy in the Odyssey.
In the book she is described as the most beautiful woman in the land.
The actress they got is pretty her race is clearly the real motivation for her casting because even among black women others are way more beautiful.
If I have to give a specific recast I would go with Ana de Armas. Since the rest of the cast is full of A listers from the past two decades might as well stick to the theme


And the other from that same movie would obviously be Eliot Paige as Achilles.
Because I’m sorry, Achilles is supposed to be a buffed up warrior indestructible except for his back tendon named after him.
I would cast Brendon Sklenar.
He’s an underrated talent and this could he his breakout role.

Why can't a black woman not be the most beautiful woman in the land. Just because you picture it a certain way doesn't mean it has to only be that way.

Does it say most beautiful white woman? Even if it did, so what? Get over it.

I even agree that the actress they cast is gorgeous.
The problem is the land itself.
Troy was a greek city located in present day turkey.
That means Helen “of Troy” cannot be a black woman, that would imply that Troy is somehow a diverse place and history tells us it wasn’t.
At least not in such a way that a greek princess or queen could be black.

But as usual if we complain about these things someone will scuff and say that we’re narrow minded.

All I want is a bit of historical accuracy.
And I think it’s cheap to sacrifice that to virtue signal how inclusive we are

It’s the same story over and over with Hollywood and every time the movie flops and then they start pointing fingers and blaming the audience who didn’t show up.

It's because it IS the audience who doesn't show up especially if they are narrow minded and cannot fathom a movie where race swapping occurs, but only when it's a minority. They are fine of the actor/actress is white. That's the problem. Then the movie gets bad press from haters and others decide not to see the movie from the bad reviews they hear.

And lets not kid ourselves no movie ever swapped in a white man in the place of another race
Except maybe the Jesus movies. And they get criticized for it as well.

I’m not a white man and don’t care about racial power plays. But I do respect authenticity and meaningful art.
Most people do. That’s why movies that shoehorn diversity into a story that has no business being diverse always flop.
I can’t name a single example of one such movie that was a hit regardless.

And it’s not an attack against anyone it’s simply the results of the decisions.
The same way some songs hit platinum and others are barely listened to.

That depends. I mean, I find some black women gorgeous but find others butt-ugly. It really just depends. I mean, Whitney Houston was freaking beautiful beyond words, but the actress they got for Helen of Troy, I don't find attractive at all.

Please research or just do a simple internet search before you make a claim like that. Yes, white people have replaced roles that were originally for minority races. Examples:

Aloha (2015): Emma Stone played Allison Ng, a character described in the script as being of mixed Asian and Hawaiian heritage.

The Last Airbender (2010): Director M. Night Shyamalan adapted the animated show Avatar: The Last Airbender, whose lead characters are inspired by Inuit and Asian cultures, and cast white actors (including Noah Ringer and Nicola Peltz) for the main roles.

21 (2008): Based on the real-life MIT blackjack team, the film centers on a protagonist who was originally based on a Chinese-American man named Jeffrey Ma, but he was replaced by white actor Jim Sturgess.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010): White actor Jake Gyllenhaal was cast to play the lead, Prince Dastan of Persia.

Death Note (2017): In this Netflix adaptation of the Japanese manga, the lead character Light Yagami was shifted to a white American teen named Light Turner.

John Wayne played Genghis Khan for a movie too

Rob Schneider plays all kinds of races in Adam Sandler movies including an Asian man in Chuck and Larry.

Just a few examples, not to mention the movies made where white actors dawned blackface/yellowface to portray minorities.

I have a hard time thinking anyone could have done worse picking Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. Literally anyone would have been an improvement. I mean, literally anyone. But I think maybe Billy Zane would have been good.

As for some slightly different answers... Gene Wilder was the most perfect Willy Wonka ever and re-making it later with Johnny Depp just confirmed to me how perfect he was and it was dumb to even bother trying that ever again.

Then Tom Cruise as the original Reacher was awful, and they fixed it with Alan Ritchson. Cruise's acting skills are fine, but he didn't even slightly look the part...

Leto’s take felt super try-hard and shallow, like a Hot Topic gangster. Dafoe has that naturally unsettling face and intense energy, plus his work in *The Lighthouse* and *Spider-Man* shows he can do unhinged, theatrical, and terrifying without it feeling forced. I agree with Kristen Stewart not being Bella but I think Emily Browning would have been perfect for that role. Even the author wanted her to be Bella and I feel it would have been even better if she had been not Anna Kendrick. I think Anna Kendrick was perfect as Jessica.

the very second I saw the news about this movie I was EXCITED!! about it and I was really REALLY looking forward to it, but then... next second I realized that it is just another movie in which the creators have one intention

In Wall Street, Daryl Hannah is quite unbelievable as the cold-hearted golddigger. Oliver Stone himself admitted that he should have switched her with the actress that plays Gekko's wife, Sean Young.

Tom Cruise is terribly miscast as Jack Reacher. The guy in the series, Alan Ritchson, is much more akin to the character in the book. Reacher is a stiff, military dude with a teeny bit of softness, and Cruise doesn't fit that role at all.
