Today is the Marilyn Monroe centennial. Born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926, the movie star would have been 100 years old today. From the 1950s and into the early ’60s, the actress known as Marilyn Monroe was one of Hollywood’s highest earners. Her films grossed the equivalent of $2.2 billion in today’s terms by the time of her death in 1962 at age 36. Expect tributes of all sorts to flood the internet today. In Los Angeles, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures opened its “Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon” exhibit yesterday featuring scintillating memorabilia, including the pink dress she wore to sing “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” in the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

Although I've only seen clips of her movies, I remember her for her iconic movie line, "Don't you know that a man being rich is like a girl being pretty? You might not marry a girl just because she's pretty, but my goodness, doesn't it help?"

And then there are some famous quotes that I love by her-

"Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius, and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring."

It's too late now, but there should have been posters or pictures made of that favorite moment of her standing on the sidewalk and air came up and blew her dress up, and she had her legs apart and was enjoying the air going up her dress.

I don't know what she was standing on that blew air up her dress.

It would be equivalent to Farah Faucets poster of her in her red bathing suit.

She was, first and foremost, an incredibly sensitive, complex and marvelous human being. As a person, she seemed to be kind, humble despite her fame, approachable, smart and very comfortable with her own sexuality.

The thing she wanted the most is to be loved for who she was and I don't think that she ever got that, unfortunately.

Like many artists, despite her flaws, she was too good a person for this dehumanizing world of greed, image and power games.

Marilyn not taking herself too seriously, despite being so hot, glamourous and sexy.
