Do you cry loudly at movies or books that move you deeply?

Question

Reading a book where a girl who was left alone at 7 finally found her family again. Her brother found her at 22 and returned home to her. I haven’t cried this much after my first ever break up at 26 I think.

I wonder what’s wrong with me, I have been crying loudly like a baby 😄

Does it happen to you too? When a movie or a book just moves you deeply?

I may cry but not loudly.

For instance, I was watching "The Sheep Detectives" with my wife yesterday at a movie theater. She is a competitive sheepherer. However, we used to have 5 sweet ewes, 4 being older ewe lambs. I got close to them with names and everything and they started to follow me around and it was just like in the movie. I was just like Hugh Jackman's character of George, the vegetarian man who just owns sheep for enjoyment. I would sit with my sheep and talk and groom them and it was good.

But then my wife took them away...

In real sheepherding, the shepherd doesn't have such an intimate relationship with the sheep. So, because the sheep were relatively tamed by me and familiar with her, she couldn't easily do sheepherding practice with them. So, my wife did a swap with another such woman. Now, we have 5 rams and she has my 5 ewes. Furthermore, I have no relationship with the rams so they remain wild enough so my wife can practice.

Still, I miss "my girls" - a lot. I miss just being able to sit down with them all around me and sing to them and groom them taking off their shedding wool...

The character of George said so much that I intuitively understood so I gave a playful scowl toward me wife silently thinking (and she knowing) "See? George agrees with me!"

Well, at times in the darkness of the theater, I teared up. It's a good movie worthy of some tears but also because of my own deep lost connection with my now-gone ewe sheep.

Certain things - books, movie scenes, songs, other people's hardship or suffering, acts of compassion - can make me tear up and unable to talk without crying, but never out loud.

Actually, when I was 38 and separated from the first girlfriend that I truly loved and had lived with for two years, I experienced the greatest pain I have ever felt in my life. I constantly felt like I had literally been kicked in the guts and couldn't breathe. Sometimes I even felt nauseous. At times, when I was alone in my apartment, I would curl up and bawl.

My mom died from cancer when I was 42. I bawled then, too.

When I was 56, the kitty my wife and had for 22 years from the time she was 5 weeks old died of old age. I sat with her on the sofa until she took her final breath peacefully in her own home. I loved her so much. I cried real hard then, too.

Im terrible at expressing my emotions and used to think people were dumb for crying at books and movies until I started watching war documentaries.

there's this show in the uk called "Its a sin" and its the first time I've ever balled my eyes out over a drama. Its about a young lad whose gay in the 80s during the aids pandemic so not a war documentary but to know many young men went through that and what the reality was for them broke my heart

If I am reading a book and the plot goes downhill then i don't get over for that while like I am depressed about it for quite some time.
And if i binge watch on something and the plot is tragic or touching it brings tears rather quickly than I gather

I absolutely cry at movies and books, sometimes embarrassingly loud.

I still remember sobbing in the theater during “Grave of the Fireflies” and “A Silent Voice,” and at home with “Your Name” and “The Green Mile.”

When a story hits that abandoned / found-again feeling, it opens old doors in us. That loud crying is your empathy working perfectly ❤️

Yes, I am a guy but certain sequences have teared me up. Both were Robert Redford movies. One was The Natural when he proved himself when most ball players were retired and Three Days Of The Condor when a gun man had a weapon pointed at a pretty Chinese girl, Max Von Widow said "Move away from the window, please" and she said "I feel like screaming". Widow casually said: "I know".
