Definitely... yes, Simon wrote 99.9% of their tunes. What a genius. One of the greatest of our lifetime in my opinion. I like pretty much all his songs too. I think he and Dylan were the greatest lyricists of our time. Interesting they are both Jewish! Simon's guitar playing on this song is incredible too... unique style. How could a song like this have been forgotten so long? Boggles my mind.

This song was about Art Garfunkel. "Tom" was his name in their group when they first got together and used the name "Tom and Jerry" before they became Simon & Garfunkel.

Art flew to Mexico to film a part he had in the movie "Catch 22" and left Paul alone in New York City to write some new material and it's about how Paul felt being left alone there. You may know that the two of them had a lot of difficulty between them throughout their career. The main basis of it was that Paul always felt that he did all the work... writing the songs... the hard part... and that Art was just tagging along and didn't put nearly the effort into things. So they had a lot of fights over the years.

But about a year ago I heard that they got together and apologized to each other letting all of that go. I think that is something that comes with age and the realization that the time you have left is limited. I heard Art interviewed after that and they asked him if he and Paul plan to get back together to perform. He kind of brushed it off and said something like "That doesn't matter. What matters is that we managed to become the friends we always knew we were somewhere inside."
