I think it’s a religious thing. His people are cannibals and they eat people as part of religious rituals. Kinda like the Aztecs who ate the hearts of their sacrificed enemies. In fact, the reason he keeps coming back is because his body is energized by ancient Aztec spirits! It all makes perfect sense!
