What’s the best concert you've been to?

For me, it’s Black Sabbath with Dio, Megadeth, and Machine Head.

I’ve forgotten more shows than I remember going to at this point, haha. The Roots in the early 00s put on an INCREDIBLE show. Large venue, too, but their live band still sounded great.

Honestly, I’m rarely disappointed. I can remember almost everyone who was whack. 50 Cent sucked, in his prime, too. Busta Rhymes was good but had a piss poor attitude. Guns N Roses were great except for Axl, who’s old, fat, and easily-winded, lmao. Slash pulled it up though, he was phenomenal. Redman & Method Man were good themselves, but the acoustics were terrible. I enjoyed Paramore, but I was disappointed they played a lot of their new stuff, and literally nothing from my favorite album, their first. I don’t remember being let down much by anyone else though.

Brian Wilson was COOKED, but he did the entire Pet Sounds album, and I think The Beach Boys were one of my first favorite groups as a small child, so it was still really meaningful to see him. Al Jardine was there, and some younger supporting vocalists, so it overall sounded good; but if BW was on an island…. oof. But again…just so happy to see him at all, it was still powerful. But when he said, “This is the first song I ever wrote…”, and went right into “Surfer Girl”, which is, for my money, one of the greatest slow jams of all time…. I almost felt out of my chair. Imagine your first try, at like 18, being an all-time banger. Unbelievable. So RIP B-Dubs; really glad I caught him before he left us. Mike Love’s show is much better for that classic Beach Boys experience though.

For visuals, I thought Roger Waters put on a great show.

Maybe closest to my heart is Dave Matthews Band; not so much because I’m a fan…. but because that was the show that helped me finally close with this hot chick I had been chasing for MONTHS. She was always almost there, but something was holding her back. Bought her tickets for her 21st birthday, it guaranteed I’d see her over the summer break from school.

Bro, I was plotting my moves the whole ride down to the venue with her, and I still wasn’t sure how hot she was running. She even brought a friend with her, and a dude her friend liked. I was like “FUCK…she brought people. That can’t be good for me.” But we jumped into the security line, she got in first, and when I got through, she immediately jumped me and starts making out with me. So I’m like “aight, the tone has been set”, lmao. Barely remember the music but she’s one of my Hall Of Famers, so I owe a lot to soft ass Dave Matthews🤣🤣🤣

Other than that, I judge a show more by the intensity of the mosh pit (where applicable)🦍🦍🦍 Agnostic Front had a tough pit, Rage Against The Machine, Pantera, Metallica, Korn has had some decent pits. I was keeping a pit going during Green Day at Fenway, but obviously you just don’t get the same kind of audience. You get a lot of “look at me! I’m moshing!” types, lmao. Someone in a Pantera pit is ready to take your head off.

Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath) in 2007. Rush on what would become one of their last shows with Neil Peart. Uriah Heep are always amazing live, too. Same goes for King Crimson, Yes and Opeth. Hard to choose just one.

Metal lineup of dreams 😍 Mine was Radiohead in Florence. They played beneath this pink sunset over the old city, and when “Paranoid Android” and “Fake Plastic Trees” started, everyone went silent, like a collective trance. The visuals were so minimal but perfectly synced. It felt like experiencing a living art installation more than just a concert 🎶🖤
