Do you still watch TV and movies without any paid streaming services?

I mean literally, you watch movies or TV from other sources but you dont pay streaming at all.

I’ve been on a mission for two years now, buying all the used DVDs and Blu-Rays I can. I should be buying or building a house in the next decade, and I’m going to have a dedicated media area, with my own in-home Blockbuster: shelves, signage, the whole deal; exclusively stocked with as close to every movie and TV series I deem worthy of ownership.

I was actually going through them tonight and I think I have like a dozen full size brown paper grocery bags filled two columns of DVDs apiece. It’s to the point where it’s hard to find movies I want now; I’m about to get into paying a little more to fill out some must-haves through online purchasing, like prime seasons of The Simpsons that I’ll likely never find by chance at the thrift store. The last two summers, I’d leave the thrift store with an armload of them; sometimes I’d buy a cheap wicker basket too, just to carry them, haha. I can’t imagine I don’t have 500 DVDs by now, maybe more.

I figure that, at $2-3 per movie, and $4-5 per season of a TV series, I’ll always be winning vs streaming it via subscription or à la carte, and I’ve got it forever, hard copy, no matter what. If I have to chase down The Simpsons (or for some reason the Corey Haim movie “Lucas” is tough to come by, lmao) for $15, that still dollar-cost averages out pretty well over the sum of the collection. Newer favorites like Letterkenny, I might need to go mainstream market for that…but I want to support those guys anyway.

Anyway, we have YouTube TV basically just to watch NFL football, and the rest of the time I’m probably watching stuff on YouTube. But I usually play at least one DVD per night, just to check that they all work, so I’m watching non-streaming stuff frequently

Look nowadays like everyone, I smart phone, I subscribe to streaming - I shop at Amazon online - what else is a man to do? Or a woman to do lol 😆🤣

We never watch TV, and the only streaming service we paid for is YouTube Premium, which we only use for the HD audio. Standard YouTube is virtually unlistenable.

I honestly can’t imagine my life without at least one streaming service now 😂 but I still mix in free stuff.

I use paid platforms for most movies, festivals coverage, k‑dramas, and HBO/Netflix series, but I also watch free channels’ apps, YouTube movies, and some ad-supported services like Tubi/Pluto when I feel nostalgic for that “random TV” vibe. 📺✨

I only have Amazon Prime for the free shipping and the Fire TV Stick. There are plenty of free streaming movie channels on the Internet.
