What It Is Like to NOT Have Parents

Hello, my name is Sarah Castillo, I am a 14 year old turning 15 and I have spent 3 years without a family, only in Foster Care.

Blood makes you related, family makes you loyal.

How my Mother died:

When I was 12 years of age, my Mother Got Breast Cancer, she would stay in in bed for days at a time sleeping and not eating, she was vomiting and couldn't talk to me and my Sister because she was so sick. About a week later my Father decided to take my Mother to hospital, the Doctor preformed a check up and almost immediately knew my Mother had Breast Cancer, about 2 months of my Mother being in Hospital she died, it took me months and years even today to stop thinking about my mothers death.

A Daughter should not beg her Father for a relationship.

Why my father left:

My Father shortly after my mothers death left me and my sister to live by ourselves, honestly I don't think he cared about me and My Sister much, He only cared for my mother, teachers and staff soon found out about this and they rang a foster care system and put My Sister and I into it.

foster care:

In 3 years I have been to 5 Foster cares, these five foster cares didn't treat my family (sister) well, they used to hit us and make us do hours of chores, I recently moved out of my other foster care into a new one, I am happy and well in this one Being treated like a child should be by my new parents, I am the happiest I have ever been.

I feel your pain. I was in foster care until I was 7. My brother and I were also treated horrible. We were abused in many different ways. I have always said that I will figure out a way to help kids in the system. I hope to do that one day. I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. I love learning about this type of stuff. I have always been scared to foster/adopt children. Honestly, it's not scared in the way most people think. It's more scared of knowing what they have gone through and they will be scared that I will be the next enemy that will be worse than their past foster parent.

These scenarios shape who you are. It sounds like these experiences made you stronger and able to face adversity easier or know how to deal with it better. I know that you'll probably never get over your mother's death, but you'll learn to understand and deal with it as you get older. At least you had your sister with you as a family. Family doesn't always mean mother/father/kids, it means people who care about you are around you and you help one another cope. The shit's behind you.

I lost my father when I was young and my mother kind of fell apart after that. I understand some of the struggles you’ve had to face. It’s definitely something difficult to overcome but It makes you stronger in life. I’m happy to hear you’re in a safe and positive environment. Keep your head up kid and never forget what your mom would have wanted for you.

i have 3 sisters. all of them did foster care. and all of them have adopted 2 or 3 of the kids that had. it's good that you finally found a good foster care family. that's how it should be. but most are just after the money and do not care for the kids they are taking care of.
