Are there places people discuss ideas in real life?

One of the main reason I love GAG is it helps fill my rampant curiosity. I suspect others feel the same way.

Outside of the formal education system - where are offline places people talk about ideas together?

I guess it depends on what you want to talk about. Like someone said, you can go to book clubs if you like discussing the ideas within them.
However, it's doubtful that you can find a group that really discusses a wide range of ideas. Most people are too touchy for that.

Congress seems to spend more time ranting than discussing. I am blessed with an amazing, intelligent and curious best friend. Otherwise I might go insane from lack of mental connection! :)
