Why do most fathers hate their daughters boyfriends?

On the movie "College Road Trip", the dad was overprotective of his daughter Melanie and the other girl's father attacked her fiance for saying their engaged.
I mean I understand they're protective but it's like they don't want them to grow up. When my sister had her period, dad was like, "No. Already?" My brothers and I were the same way but let them grow up. When I was dating my first girlfriend, her parents didn't really like me at first and her dad was an asshole to me. He kept trying to scare me and keep his daughter and I separated. I'm a nice guy once you get to know me.
Her dad even told me, "I hope you're not thinking about sex with MY precious little angel, because IF you do, I got a 40 inch shovel and I ain't afraid to use it!"

While your first girlfriend's dad was at the extreme end of being protective, there is good reason to be wary of the boys dating our daughters.

As men (and fathers) we ourselves can recall what was going through our minds when we were first dating! So we suspect that these boys are no different than what we were in our teen years.

The last thing we dads want is for our precious daughters to be seduced and use as sexual exploits. It may sound extreme in some cases, but during those teenage years the hormones are running rampant. A little extra emphasis on respect for our girls helps check those testosterone surges.

We will always remember the times when our children were young and learning to walk, ride a bike, first day of school, driving permit, etc. That memory of her growing up never fades, so we always attach those moments when we see her. Even after she's walked down the aisle. :)

She's his baby girl! He's protective. No man (I hope) would be okay with the thought of a boy violating his daughter.

My dad likes my boyfriend but you can bet your ass he gave him the "shovel" talk. My dad runs a slaughterhouse though. That's basically enough to make sure only good decent guys come calling :p They have machines in there that grind up entire cow skeletons into dust. A human body would easy to dispose of ;) lol

My dad doesn't even let me date in high school (im 17). He trusts me though to find a guy in college and knows that it's my choice.

I think dads want to see them selves in the guy their daughter is marrying. If the guy is like them or better they're the one. The guy has to make them laugh, make them feel comfortable, like the same team as them. It's like a date.

It's just a stereotype to preserve this idea that girls need to remain virginal to be loveable and it's really sad and fucked up. My dad is super conservative but at least he agrees that I and all women should have the right to choose what happens to our bodies.
