My Little Brother Ignores Me. What To Do?

My little brother, who is not that much younger than me, only gives me attention when he wants to show me stuff. I pay attention and try to understand his interests, like his deep interest in sports, even when I, myself, am not so fond of it. When it comes to what I like, though, he ignores me. I try to show him videos and talk to him about what I like, and he blocks me out. I don't understand why he does this, and it honestly hurts when he tells me to go away.

He's in Middle School, and I'm in High School.

Tbh that's about the age when they start branching away from their siblings.
And you just gotta keep being an older sibling lol. My baby brother is like, 6 years younger than I am and he went through a few years, when he was in middle school, where he pretended I wasn't even his sister lol. Only came to me for rides to places and money. I drove him and his buddies around, refused to give him money and I would tell him shit all the time anyways even if he didn't care.
But now we're good - he's in high school, and I'm his sister again haha.
Since you seem to care about him, maybe try to show some interest in the thing he likes? I was lucky because we have things in common. Just give him his space, he'll come around sooner or later.

Thanks for your advice. I try to show interest in what he likes, which is sports, and try to have him explain some things that I don't understand (when he watches soccer, I'm fine, but football gets me confused a bit XD). We do have some similar interests, and I try to talk about these things with him. I really think he may be doing this because he's in middle school, because sometimes he likes talking, and other times, he doesn't even wanna give me any attention lol.

I don't understand! My 13 yr brother does the same. I try to kiss him he like eww stay away from me your ugly. The best thing to do is not talk to him and then go buy something he might like and when he not busy and offer him some and stay quite he will then want talk about himself... it works like a charm but not all the times.

Yeah, it's a weird thing. I sometimes forget how much younger he is than me, as he tries to act older than he is. It just annoys me that, when he finds something interesting, he comes directly to me. He can talk to me for a long while, but when I try to start a conversation about something, he doesn't want to talk to me.

Even he is your brother... he is a different person than you... He is an individual like everyone else, only he is related by a family. Recognize this. It hurts I know, but you can't please everyone including your family. You can only do so much and it's everyone's job to make themselves happy. Such is life.

It's not really about making everyone happy. It's just more about sharing a close relationship with my brothers.

Maybe he hates or resents you? I hope not. But if so, yes get close to him. I tried this too with my brother, he just is a different person than I am... I just accepted it.

He does not hate or resent me in any way. I know that he loves me, but I just get annoyed when he ignores me at times. He doesn't do it all the time though. I I guess that I'm just a bit sad that he's growing up, and wants more space from us, and more independence. It'l l probably be better after he passes through middle school.
