Girlfriends are overrated?

what does it actually mean when a guy says he doesn't want a girlfriend and that there overrated? does he actually think that or just hasn't found someone yet?

what I mean is a guy I like was hanging out with us and he split up with his girlfriend couple weeks ago and he said to me girlfriends are overrated, but then we ended up kissing all night I just want to no does it mean he doesn't want a girlfriend?

Do you mean girl friend as in just a friend, or as in girl friend like a relationship? In either case its important to have friends in the opposite sex. As for a relationship I think he's just jaded, lots of humans prefer to be in relationships, but with that said they also get bored and relationships become stagnant or unappealing that's why over 50% of marriages end in divorce. They don't want to try and find the flaws in a relationship and try and work on fixing it, its usually a one sided effort or there is no effort at all. Granted some relations need to end, I ended a 10 plus year friendship just because we became verbally abusive to each other over the past few years and neither of us need that in our lives no one does. With that said all relationships need allot of work from both people, sometimes you click, but what's important is finding people who will stick with you through the good and the bad and are just there for each other in one way or another :)

When I read your question/update - It makes sense that he is just wanting a casual "ons/fwb" type of relation with you; he isn't wanting to escalate quickly into a relationship again. I doubt it's anything to be alarmed about necessarily; it's just him saying:

"Look, I just ended a long term relationship that I cared about; and right now I'm just wanting to have fun. I don't want to settle down just yet"

It's temporary and will pass with time in most scenarios.

Yea I think your right bout he just wants a casual somethin, oh it was long term btw it was 1 week and he only got with her to make me jelous cause we were seeing each other beforehand but then he saw me in a some bar with a load of guys so we stopped talking. lot more to the story lol

I think what he means is that official partnership is not something that interests him. He likes passion and affection and tenderness just as much as you, but he's not so interested in obligation, expectation, vows, commitment, kids, cohabitation, divorce, acrimony, alimony, growing old together, second and third marriages, messing up your kids, renewing your vows, building a home together, or any such archaic nonsense. What it means would depend on how he perceives girlfriends are rated. If someone tells him "every guy needs a girlfriend" then "girlfriends are overrated" means he doesn't need a girlfriend to be happy, but may still want one anyway. If someone tells him "Gee, 't would be nice to have a girlfriend" then "girlfriends are overrated" means he's not interested in getting a girlfriend at all.
