How do guys feel when female friends wish them a happy birthday?

I have a crush on a guy and his birthday is coming up. I'm really nervous to wish him a happy birthday because even though I have his phone number I've never used it (calls or texts). I feel like texting would be the more appropriate and personal route vs Facebook timeline or messenger. Am I off base here? Is texting the right way to go? In case you're wondering, I'm the type of person who always feels that I'm bothering others by initiating contact. I just know if I don't acknowledge his birthday I'll regret it in the future.

Also, just out of curiosity how do you guys feel when a girl acknowledges you on your birthday?

There are couple of things you need to know.
First, you are possibly situational introvert. You feel you would be disturbing others by taking up their time. If it's so, I would say, it's a quality that makes you 'reserved' as a person. But do not over practice it.
Second, if this guy knows you and you have a chance to wish him face to face, then go for it. Otherwise, text him. He will be happy and in case you are wondering, 'will he think of me as desperate?'. No. He won't. He may start conversing with you, which you want. Don't you?

Tbh. A lot of us are clueless when it comes to women flirting with us. It isn't until it's too late that we realize. If you like this guy you should be upfront with him. Find out if he's single, wish him a happy birthday in person, and if he received it well tell him how you feel in a day or two. That's more likely to end well for you than playing the beat around the bush game. I've never been rude to a girl that liked me that I wasn't into and most guys aren't going to either. Without risk there can be no reward.

I was in the same boat a few days ago. Except, I talk to my crush everyday (I don't think he knows I like him). I sent him a text at 10 am although I was tempted to keep him on the phone until 12 am. i decided against it because i did not want to come off strong. I am flattered. Having some one remember it is my birthday is a GREAT thing. Never be afraid of doing something that could put a smile on someone's face.

If you are hoping that he take it as a flirt or more from you keep in mind that guys are pretty clueless. You probably need to take it up one more step like maybe a birthday lunch or something. I would be flattered if you invited me to a dinner at your place. Even a clueless guy might get the message then.

Facebook is the best way. Depends on how I feel about her. If she is just a friend I feel glad she said it and like "aw, another person cared about my birthday." If I like her, "WOOOOOOOOOOOOO! She noticed me! She cares!" I nearly passed out when the girl I liked wished me happy birthday on my 17th, she gave me a nice long message and I was just hopping around so happy.

Well if I like her, I'm looking for her birthday greeting especially, and I will particularly enjoy it. But guys get birthday greetings from everyone on their birthday, so it's not a "hint" if they get a birthday greeting from you.
