+1 yI've already done it... but I desperately wanted a daughter and luckily had one.
I come from a very nasty family. All of the men were abusive (sexually and physically) to the girls, while the boys were treated like kings.
I picked up on this and decided that I wanted to have a daughter so I could end the abuse and give her what my sisters, cousins and nieces never had... a safe, loving father figure and confortable childhood.
Turns out, I'm the last man to carry on the family name and I never had a son.
I feel bad for ending the family name, but I'm also ecstatic for being strong enough to realize the evil that was going on and stop it forever.
My daughter is currently very happy, has a stable relationship with a nice boy, and cruising through college with a 5.0 GPA.60 Reply

+1 yI’d go with a son for sure...
https://youtu.be/RTrCBcrFMCI
😂... but besides all that, I’d be the worst dad ever when she got to dating age, I’d be slapping up 15 year old boys on the reg lmfao.10 Reply
+1 yI'm a only child and a girl (obviously). And I think my parents are very happy with that. My mum is a very clean person and would freak if she had a son with the typical dirty socks under his bed and muddy football boots. My dad I know (secretly) enjoys spoiling me, he likes going shopping and going on holiday etc.
From the lack of siblings I had and the quiet house, I defo want an army of children. Maybe 3, or 4 ;). Depends on what kind of money me and my husband will have etc. I don't want that many children if I can't afford all of them to travel and go to good schools and have their own space.00 Reply
after working with kids at summer camps, i have to pick a son. even at a young age the girls are very gossipy, the boys on the otherhand are just full of energy and carelessness. i think that would be fun to be able to have an active child and play basketball with him outside rather than dolls (not saying girls dont do that too... but stereotypically its what you can expect)

This is my dad. I'm a spoilt brat and I admit it.
I would go insane by the time my daughter reaches dating age. Also, my main goal is to have a mini version of myself. For those reasons, I’ll have to choose having a son.

+1 yI would probably prefer a son - I imagine they're easier and all the names I absolutely love are boy's names. However, my partner would prefer a daughter.

the risk of autism is higher in boys
- +1 y
@DevylasArsaukas76 it is indeed
- +1 y
which is why you don't want that, autism causes misery and divorces in families
- +1 y
@DevylasArsaukas76 Girls can still get autism there's no safe gender to choose from here dude
- +1 y
either way it does break apart families nonetheless
- +1 y
@DevylasArsaukas76 it certainly can do, as anything else can, but I do have close friends who are autistic and it hasn't broken up their families so it depends
+1 yDaughter for the soul reason I can put my nickname into her name. Scarlet would be the name

@Kaytiee well the name you have now is still wonderful, if that's any consolation
I've got two sons both wonderful men. I've never had to spank either of them. I can tell you that as protective as I feel twords my boys and as much as I love the females in my life... I would just be a wreck cuz nobody would be good enuff for my baby girl as stupid as that sounds.

+1 yI would want a daughter cause i want to be her cool dad that braids her Hair does her make-up and take her for shopping
40 ReplyI would pick a son because I can relate to him more, which will hopefully minimize my mistakes as a parent. Also, boys often do not need much protection compared to girls at a young age.

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yMen have it easier in the world (generally speaking) but women are usually better citizens (as it says in free-ebooks' "Are Women the Stronger Sex" - again, generally speaking).
Ultimately, it wouldn't matter to me. I'd try to raise my son to be a good man who is respectful towards women. The world needs more men like that.00 ReplyAt my age I would cherish either, but they would be taught to think for themselves and question anything being taught to them that they were unsure about and if they needed a sounding board I'd always be available.

+1 yA son. I can't deal with the stress of a daughter dating. My biggest fear is seeing my daughter blowing some dude.
Like what if I walk in and he finishes in her mouth and she just looks at me scared with a full mouth. I wouldn't know if I'd be more pissed to see her spit or swallow, either way I'd start swinging.10 Reply- 831 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic.

10 ReplyI want 5 daughters. I held my niece when she was an infant and it changed me 😭. I’ve always wanted kids but since then I’ve wanted girls.
But I also think it would be cool to have a mini-me running around. So I’d be happy with boys too00 Reply

+1 yI've for some reason always imagined myself with a daughter. I guess I like the whole idea of a, "daddy's girl". But I'd probably want a son as well, to teach proper manliness to.

@Kaytiee Actually it makes sense. We tie ourselves to the parent of the opposite sex because we are naturally created to be with one another as man and woman. A father for a daughter and a mother for a son acts as role models for young children and precursors for what they are to expect from the opposite sex.

Yeah I was thinking about that, in fact we had this exact same conversation in the car yesterday. I think also for me, with my mum she’s hassling about everything and 90% of the men in my life it’s just, get in the car we are going to shopping. Simplistic to to say, but with my mother it takes her 2 hours to get ready and her shopping trips are planned weeks in advance. So that’s one thing I always enjoyed about my dad.
- +1 y
@Kaytiee Mm. But honestly I'd wish for my mum to be a bit more planning. Similar to the shopping thing, (and this annoys me so much) she very often decides in advance to make this or that for dinner but never makes sure to check she has everything she needs, she just presumes without planning. And then she's annoyed when an ingredient is missing and has to go shopping, just check in advance for goodness sake. I myself am very structured, which according to my mom I inherited from my dad.
- +1 y
@Kaytiee Oh man yeah, mine does that too. Literally every single small thing, which we are perfectly capable of taking care of when we come home, she has to do before we leave. So I know to always add approximately half an hour to whenever she says, "Let's go".
- +1 y
@Kaytiee And then they get annoyed when you're sat in the car and they're like: "What, look at the time, we're gonna be late, my gooddness!!" And you're just suppressing the urge to tell them off XD Like, mom, watches exist, you should look at them from time to time!!

My dad felt the same way he wanted me to leave the house last because I was a girl and girls are more vulnerable

@MotherlessDaughter I don't know. I kinda want my son established so he can take care of my daughter if need be. Also it symbolizes the end of an era when your girl moves out. She might not be getting married but she'll be out into society as a free woman.
+1 yI would like to have both but I would like to have a girl. A lot of boys are born in the family so be nice to have more girls.
