How often did you see your parents show affection toward each other?

One big problem with me is that I don't know how to show that I care about someone. The only way I know how is to flat out tell someone. But I've had past girlfriends break up with me because they didn't think I cared enough. They'd say "Okay, you can SAY you love me but you never act like it." I'll kiss a girl or just give her a hug, but it will just feel so weird to me. Then I'll try to just do things for them (buy them gifts, take them out, invite them over and cook for them). But they'll think I'm being insincere about it.

ANYWAY, I was talking to someone about this the other day and he asked how my parents were toward each other growing up. Thinking back, I've never seen them show any kind of affection toward each other. I've never seen them kiss or hug or hold hands or anything at all. The reason why he asked this was because he believed that when we are younger, we watch our parents as models of how couples should be.

So what was the relationship your parents had toward each other?

Never. I've seen them kiss once when I was little, but they argued immediately thereafter lol. They generally hate each other :P There wasn't a day growing up that they didn't argue. They just hate each other, they're only together because they have to be. They wanted a divorce before they even got married :P They're just a very violent and argumentative couple.

It didn't at all affect how I show affection, though. I'm extremely affectionate. I give my boyfriend lots of hugs and kisses, and I smother all of my friends in love.

My parents are like an old married couple. They love each other but don't really show it very often. Well, they show it in an old married couple kind of way, you know? They don't need to always be kissing and cuddling and telling each other how much they love each other. They've been together forever and they already know that stuff.

And I know that I have been influenced greatly by that. I don't feel the need to show a lot of affection. At least, I haven't as of yet. So I think that your parents' relationship is a huge factor.

They pretty much never did/do. I can't even think of more than a few isolated times where I've seen them express any kind of affection towards each other. Man, what a bummer, haha.

Coincidentally (or maybe not) I always feel like I'm being too overbearing if I show affection towards anyone...

According to family rumor, they showed each other affection roughly 9 months prior to my birth. Of course, there are those who took exception to this account, and unkindly suggested my resemblance to the mailman..

They always take a trip every weekend to spend time together. I've walked in on them doing the nasty once and damn near ran downstairs and grab a spoon to gouge my eyes out.

To answer this, I'll have to talk in past tense. My mother died in 2009,but what from I can recall between my parents...they were like magic together. He does construction outside of state,therefore he was never home as much as he wanted to be. Whenever he was though, they showed all the love they could. Growing up, I never once seen them in a vulger or tasteless way, they had a lot of class together. My mother was a wonderful lover =)

I was conceived out of wedlock by a couple of fresh out of high school idiots and raised by my divorced grandmother after they broke up (read: as soon as I was born).

So never.

It may or may not have affected my ability to give affection. I wouldn't know. I've never been in a relationship and identify as asexual.

I see my parent kiss each other almost everyday. heck, they still go on dates. i've only heard them argue about 3 times.
